Oh I totally agree with that, it’s infuriating. I don’t care what position they reckon they play, but we need someone to chip in with a fair few goals ( Szmodics) . However a striker who can hold the ball up, so we aren’t giving it away too quickly is just as valuable
Nixon reporting that the mags are trying to buy Will Osula from Sheff Utd for £10million. Crazy market.
George Hirst only scored one in his first 7/8 games too I think, against us. They left him in and he looked a proper player until he picked up that bad injury.
Hot take but I’m starting to think Clarke won’t go. Ipswich apparently looking at Odobert instead. I think we have priced him out of a move.
I don’t mind as long as we look after the lads with improved contracts which the club seem to be doing well. Seeing Jarrad Branthwaite get some stick for asking Everton to match the contract offer he’s had from United but at the end of the day if you’re going to claim someone is a £70m player to price them out of a move then pay them like they’re a £70m player otherwise you’re just going to have players who don’t want to be at the club - which seems to be the complete opposite of what’s happening here, our biggest assets all look happy to be at the club.
Callum Doyle played 90 minutes for Man City against AC Milan last night. It’ll be interesting to see if they send him out for his fourth loan spell this season…
Of all the names mentioned, Stewart is the better option, fitness allowing. He would be perfect in our system. I habe no idea how easy it would be to get him back here, but I would be delighted to see him back. There may be some clever deal to do around cancelling add ons? Assuming he wont be an option I still say Hardie is the one who would suit us perfectly. I dont think his fee would be significantly high but his game is tailor made for us. I would also welcome Gelhardt back with open arms as a good fit. Ugbo wouldnt be my choice. Seems a box player and not sure that is what we need. Mendy dont know enough about tbh but worry about the level he has had success at.
Hardie was the best forward player that showed up at the SoL last season....he gave a great performance.
I think Scout73 alluded to him, saying he wasn’t that impressed with him, but I do remember the game and I was impressed with him.
A couple of other names I would throw in the ring. Emil Reiss from Preston and Obafemi from Burnley. Both 1 year left on their deal. I am a big fan of Reiss but has had injury battles. A very good age if he is over them though. Obafemi had a cracking season at Swansea before Burnley took him. A really hard running forward, and very direct. I do think there are options kicking about personally, all come with a level of risk though.
There's no way hes getting in their team anytime soon when the season starts. He'll either be loaned out again or sold for between 5 and 7m
I saw a lot of him in league 1 and was always impressed. He is as much like Stewart as I have seen. Dont get me wrong, he isnt going to a 20 goal a season superstar. But he will run the channels, hold it up, create space and chances. He would be a 10-15 man would be my guess, but could easily get 6-8 assists too. Just my opinion.
Love o9 for his attitude, but he’s not the answer to partner Ballard imho. The constant wrestling of players is just an accident (or a penalty) waiting to happen, while he’s first choice we’re not where we want to be. Saying that I haven’t a clue if any of those coming through are better, I’m simply saying imo if hes the answer the question is what centre half will guarantee us not to be promoted, happy to be wrong but that’s what I think. Now we absolutely won’t get anywhere without a decent target man but that’s another matter.
we have to get it right this time though no more Will griggs etc, and a Quinn and Phillips combination type would be great, these present players seem to panic when they get to the box, Mendy should be great though,
