Traore is a tricky one. Definitely looks much more at home behind the striker, and he's one of our best players when fit. But then, I suspect Rosenior plans to play with two out and out strikers a lot of the time, and in that scenario Traore would have to play on the wing to get in the team and I'm not sure it's worth having him there ahead of an actual winger.

Brownie used to play a 4-3-1-2 with Geo in the AM position behind King and Cousin. Always felt it was a bit weird having a single central midfielder in there but it seemed to work against weaker teams.

As in two out and out strikers and two wingers?

Weren’t we supposed to be in for another attacking midfielder?

He played out wide for Monaco I believe. If he is to play out wide he probably needs the full back to properly overlap though

I was thinking today you don't see as much of that now. Not as consistently anyway. Until a year or so ago it used to be that full backs almost always got forward and overlapped the winger when he's got the ball. Now with the growing trend of full backs playing narrower when attacking, which Christie in particular does a lot, you lose that overlapping option.

We had Ashbee, Boateng and Marney in that side so I think it's a stretch to call it a single midfielder. They were a very enterprising and solid three.

That's my feeling yes. He's used a front two in pre-season quite often and it was always how we played when we had Connolly last season. It was always him and another up there. See your point about the 10 coming in but I don't think there's a shape that would get all the expected starters in at once. There's going to have to be a few left out at any one time.

But weren't the wide players Garcia and ***an to begin with? He might have played it as a 4-4-2, but I seem to remember the MotD lineups being 4-3-1-2.

You're right it was like a diamond because that team's wide options were pretty awful aside from Garcia and a late season resurgence by Mendy

Interesting. It feels like the midfield would be a little light for me there but I haven’t seen any of preseason so I’ll look forward to seeing it.

Obviously we played various lineups at different times, but the 4-3-1-2 with Geo behind King and Cousin, which was boldly first fielded at The Emirates to everyone's surprise and then for a few weeks thereafter, featured a midfield three of Ashbee, Marney and Boateng. I doubt that we ever fielded those three attackers you mentioned plus ***an and Garcia all at the same time.

Woods on his way according to Baz. Told on Thursday he isn't in Rosie's plans and to find a new club.

If it actually was left until Thursday to tell him to find another club, which I doubt, it seems very late?
