I’m not entirely convinced by the financial fair play scenario. Last summer Acun was raving about how much money he’d spend, likely lleading to players demanding higher wages.

Considering Pelkas Connolly and Darlows significant wages are now off the wage bill you'd expect we have room in the budget for similar.

If you read between the lines of what Tan was saying then they had to do something to change the image of the club. Talking about and offering highish wages (in comparison to before) probably went some way towards doing that.

True but do we need another attacking midfielder, especially a marquee one on big wages?

Given Traoré’s absence in Istanbul then maybe. Honestly though I think they're just looking to have 2 players fairly even quality pushing each other for every shirt.
