We have to remember this will have been his first full transfer window in management. Maybe he didn’t realise how difficult it would be, hence the ‘get business in early’ comment. It’s not the crime of the century is it.I don’t think he’s tossing it off. I don’t doubt he’s been working hard all summer. I do think he’s quite naive though. He said he wanted robust players and wanted them in early. Many have said this is just a throwaway line by a manager and not to read much into it. Fair enough, but I genuinely believe Rosenior thought a lot of his main targets this summer were eager to join and play under a young, ambitious manager with an attractive philosophy. I think at some point this summer he had a reality check when many of his targets moved elsewhere because he doesn’t have the pull he thinks he does.
There have been hints by those ITK that we’ve missed out on a lot of targets over the course of this window and one of the main reasons is that they’d rather play for a more experienced manager. The Twine thing is fair enough and I wasn’t expecting it to happen soon as Burnley wanted to assess if they needed him. However, I don’t think Lokilo was one of Rosenior’s first-choice transfers and I find Vinagre being a main target for left-back odd given the lack of minutes he’s had.
We’ll see how successful the transfer window has been at the end of the month, and then no doubt decide if Acun’s done a great job or further proof that Rosenior isn’t up to the job.
