Arsenal always got good crowds when they were winning 1-0 under Graham. It would be the same with us, bigger crowds drawing 0-0 or winning 1-0 and top of the league than we would have being mid table winning some 4-3 and losing some by the same score. If we win 1-0 in the 89th minute I am happy if we lose no matter how many goals are scored or how entertaining it is I am pissed off. If I want to watch just for a better level of entertaining than I can watch teams I have no interest in and who wins is irrelevant. As far as City concerned I agree with great American gridiron coach Vince Lombardi who had his saying at Green Bay Packers inscribed at the stadium “Winning is not the most important thing - it is the only thing.”

Yeah I think this is spot on. There's often a fine line between winning and drawing and landing on the right side of that line is the main factor in whether a game is deemed boring. In 12/13 we scored a very low number of goals and got a very low numbers of points for an automatically promoted team, but we finished 2nd and no one was saying it was boring football. They were happy because we were winning and spent most of the season in the automatic promotion spots, and finished there.

Last season was our 12th best average attendance going back to the 1950s and the 7th highest in the second tier.

Considering the season we had that's not bad for us. This season is looking like it will be better.

(Yes Castro I know its very rubbish for other better supported teams)

Where is the 22,828 we averaged in Div 3 1965/1966? Or the 24,730 we averaged in Division 2 the season after ( speaking from memory, will have to check) which was higher than 4 of our 5 seasons in the PL.

A few years ago there was an article listing clubs all time averages. It will have changed slightly but we were one above Luton Town.

Yeah, me too.
And yes, winning of course tends to bring in bigger crowds. BUT we aren't Arsenal, and we won't be winning most games, and we won't be top of the league.
We're talking about winning fans back and attracting new fans. And we're not talking about you and me. Some entertainment & excitement will help (as well as the results).

I would wager they're probably dead

Well, myself and others that I know from then are still here. Though some decidedly more ropey than others.

It was a tongue in cheek comment but comparing crowds from the 60s to now isn't really reflective. As others have said, the fanbase is just small right now. It will take time but it will be built I really dont get the rehashing of the argument

Good examples of our yo yo support down the years.
1966/1967 we had over 90,000 at 3 home games in just over a week.

This is a bit blow your socks off.

I think adding the dynamism he will bring to the left side of the pitch will make a huge difference to the way we are able to carry the ball up the field and attack from both sides.

Agree Cox looked ****ed against Grimsby given he hasn't had a preseason and even his aggressive play going forward adding something different

We always said going back the years if we ever got to the top flight we would get a fanbase like the clubs who used to bring far more here than we ever took away, Sunderland, the Sheffield clubs, Leicester etc. but we didn’t.
