If he keeps going at this rate I believe Tan said we would be offering him a deal. We'll know in seven days if we've brought in cover at LB or if he's going to carry on as first choice (while Fleming is injured). I agree we probably won't renew because the finances won't be feasible for someone at his stage and the lack of potential sell on.

I think others will offer more.

Acun has said the average salary last year was around £6k a week, so that's a solid indication of what he's on.

If I were to offer, it would be on existing terms or very similar and I think he'd get more elsewhere.

It's tricky as we don't know when Fleming's back or if we're planning to bring one in before Thursday

No **** his sell-on will reduce as he gets older. We also signed Tufan to a 3 year deal which will put him at 30 when the deal expires, was that bad business too?

If we sold him when he's 28 or 29 and got an ok fee (perhaps we get promoted to the PL next season one year into his deal), I don't see the harm in that. Gets another year service out of him when we had no need to replace him.

Depends if he gets us promoted, but he probably would have more of a role in potentially a PL squad than dare I say Elder. If we don't then we stand a chance of flipping Tufan a year or so before.

A top 10 wage bill increases spending by 15-20m a year more more than last year's base. They where your FFP headroom is going.

We'll have Pelkas and another to play there by Thursday and there's Longman too. There's definitely an argument to sign Pelkas + 2 more attackers.

My point being signing 28/29 year old's to multi-year contracts is clearly not unheard of and not done with a sell-on front of mind. Evidently we were prepared to offer Tom Eaves a new contract but he chose to leave for game time.

If your businessplan to compete with the parachute clubs necessitates developing and selling on, then I suspect the bulk of larger deals will be with a view to selling on.

Of course there will be exceptions whete the board feel a larger contract or two without sell on are justified by the potential to add value to existant or future assets, but that's the game we're in until either Acun makes us the biggest club in Turkey or we go up.

I only brought up Elder because you cited Estupinan's singular international cap as some massive factor in his weekly wage when I doubt that's the case.

It clearly more than just that. But it adds value. The major factor was his goalscoring record in a top 6 European league. He will be compensated accordingly.

It clearly limits value, but there's still value there.

We've got Sinik, Allahyar, Greaves, Fleming, Alfie, Longman, at very good ages. Plus there's Oscar and Tetteh at 25. So we're absolutely fine. There's plenty of players with high potential retail value. I didn't include Baxter and Salah either as they aren't ours at this time

Yep, so if we signed him to a new deal and then tried to sell him 12 months later as a 28-29 year old I think there'd be plenty of takers who would be happy to give him a 3+ year deal (as Eaves has got as a 30 year old).

Suppose the point I'm making is I'm not sure the incentive for us to release him, sign an equivalent level of player for a short term push for promotion, only to then replace them if/when we get there, when we could take the much lower risk option of giving Elder a new deal.
