Looks like they aren’t going for a left back… at the moment!!!
Sounds very sensible.
See how Elder does. Allow a bit more time to see Fleming's development. Both fine for now. Much bigger priorities elsewhere ( DM, RB assuming JE isn't available, no 10).
His "why not" might be because he doesn't get the unjustified current criticism by some of Elder?

Yet in both friendlies involving the 'first' team, it was as though Elder was first choice again -- with Fleming in with the stiffs.

Yep, he may prove me wrong and end up first choice. Will be interesting to see how we line up in the first few games.

If he's good enough to earn the shirt then good on him. In what world is this the right attitude to have about a City player? If I or anyone else said the same about Coyle or Ingram or any other player we'd be rightly slated.

What's wrong with Ingram? He was a top performer and has been extremely consistent over the last 2 seasons.

Coyle on the other hand... well he's consistent I suppose

I didn't say anything was wrong with them? I could have listed half a dozen players but most of them are new so didn't make sense to use. <laugh>

Greaves, Jones, Slater, etc. name your player, it's a **** attitude. As I said, IF he's good enough to deserve a start then brilliant.

It's a forum pal, we're all allowed opinions.

I don't think Elder's ****, I just think he's mediocre and not good enough for a team with top ten aspirations.

You don't think he's **** you just think he's bad. Fair distinction. <laugh>

Wonder what you were saying about Ashbee, Dawson, and others as they stepped up each division. Not meaning to compare him ability wise but to write him off because of a season in a struggling side is more than a bit silly.

Imo we are in a reasonable situation at LB. Of course, we'd all love Robertson or someone as good. But we have 2 decent LBs, one who is still young but has great potential. If either of them are not performing then the other one steps straight in. And a bit of stability is not a bad thing.

Shota rotated them at the end of the season, can’t see why he wouldn’t do the same thing this season. Elder for me better against teams we may either struggle against or need more stability at the back. Fleming better against teams we’ll dominate or they’ll be sitting back as I think he’s a better crosser of the ball. I prefer Fleming and think he is more well rounded but Elder is a worth rotation option/deputy. It’s a cost we don’t need to incur at this stage when other areas are lacking more

I think reasonable is the perfect term. It's neither good nor bad, it's just reasonable. I do think as a fanbase, we've got too used to mediocrity and I think there's a fair few players we have that no other top 10 aspiring team would touch with a bargepole.

I personally don't think Elder would get another championship club if he left this window, but if he did, it would have to be one of the lower sides.

Didn’t Elder allegedly after too many shandies talk **** about Shota, If it is true what is he still doing here?

We likely have the future quality LB already with us ( Fleming). No need to rush his development nor to piss him off by bringing in another LB ahead of him nor to spend more on what isn't a priority area atm. I expect that is the club's logic.
