It's a shame to see him go but if he doesn't want to sign a new deal due to the increased competition then we can't do much. I did feel the team under Grant got very comfy, but we weren't going to progress in the championship with the bulk of that squad

Yeah think I guesstimated about that the other day, 1.5m feels low but I suppose about right given his contract length.
He's 28 too in a couple of months so his next club are unlikely to make a profit on him.

Theres a way to go on that story, but they'd lose lot more letting him go without a replacement in the building.

I think plenty of clubs have shown plenty of times they are willing to hold onto a good player and face the prospect of losing them for free if it means getting that good player playing for them for one final year. Especially as the fee you would receive with one year remaining is going to be well under what you would see them as worth.
I think you do that if he's your best player but with Honeyman no longer a guaranteed starter then taking the money becomes a decent option.
We've got to trust that the new regime are doing the right thing.

The point you seem to be missing is that George knows he won't be starting in a 3 ahead of Tufan, Traore, Seri. He wants to be first choice.
Salah wont be sitting on the bench with his face like a slapped arse struggling for minutes when everyone's fit.

I don’t understand why people assume it’s a given George would or should be playing second-fiddle to Tufan or Traoré. The former has serious fitness issues and question marks regarding laziness and the latter has never played in England before. George is reliable, a leader and someone who never stops grafting. I think it’s very silly to think we can sign three new midfielders and expect them all to hit the ground running and play most games this season.
