Always stuck in my mind how good a young Honeyman was that day (PL game). Him and Pickford were, unfortunately, outstanding.
I'd say that to be a top midfielder of any kind one tool you would need is the ability to reliably pass the ball to someone in the same coloured shirt. If you can't do that then it doesn't really matter how fast you can get from one end of the pitch to the other.
That’s why I said natural meaning physical traits, work rate, aggression, tackling ability. Technically hopefully he can improve but I think Shota has been correct in taking him out the side he was really struggling not long ago.
Do you really think Doc would be happy to stay and be further down the pecking order? Got the impression he left ibrox to play, and isn't next year his last under contract? I'm not saying we should bin him off - there are others further behind than him but I do wonder if he'll want to go out and play....
No clue, he’s played a lot this season and will get a fresh start in pre season where he can go from there. He’s shown glimpses this season but that was early days when he was more advanced because Honeyman was injured.
His engine is something-else tbf. If both he and Honeyman were out of the side perhaps it would be more noticeable. At times last season having both of them was effectively a 12th man with the ground they covered between them.
Said something silly after a warning. Nowt groundbreaking. Only this thread though and only 7 days apparently.
Slater’s just better than Doc at the technical side of the game. Better passer, better vision, better touch, better movement on and off the ball etc. Only things Doc has over Slater is being slightly and naturally stronger. Slater doesn’t shirk a tackle and is no slouch either.
Definitely. Also seems eager to learn as well. He mentioned in an interview that Shota has wanted him to improve every game and he has done imo. Every time Doc has played under Shota, he still just runs around aimlessly and gives away silly free-kicks. I don’t think Doc is **** and will never improve for the rest of his career but Slater has progressed under Shota and I hope will only keep getting better whereas Docherty just looks out of his depth at this level. Question is if Doc wants to play second-fiddle to Slater or go off and get games in League 1 or back in Scotland. I’m hoping and expecting we’ll add some quality in midfield over the summer too so Docherty might find himself further down the pecking order come next season.
Not Peterboro then. Anywhere not too far south from NE1 by any chance or are you speculating more generally....?
