These are the players we’ve been realistically linked to:

Adama Traoré (done deal according to some sources)
Benjamin Tetteh
Fernando Martins
Georges Mikautadze

There was also some rumours Shota was looking at a couple of midfielders from the Eredivisie but no names. We definitely need a new number 6 now Smallwood’s gone.

That’s Fernando if he joins. He’d piss this league. Brazil international at City, my god be like signing Geo in the champ.

Shota did publicly criticise Moncur’s lack of ambition to force his way into the starting XI, which I don’t really condone. I think those discussions should be kept between the coaching staff and players and Shota criticising players in the media kinda sets a bad example where players think they can do the same if unhappy.

Possibly just a way of saying he's available if anyone wants him.

Don’t think we’ve been linked with any domestic players yet except the ****e Rotherham striker. Thing is, our squad is exclusively from the British Isles barring Elder (and Allahyar if he signs permanently), so every one of our summer signings could be from foreign leagues and it wouldn’t upset the balance of home-grown players.

I think most of the players here will enjoy the prospect of it. They’ve clearly all taken to Allahyar very well judging by social media so when you’re being told someone with nearly double figure Brazil caps is coming to play for you, you’d be getting excited.

I’d expect Moncur and Cannon to go this summer. Moncur has technical ability but is a bit of a square peg in a round hole. Cannon was a signing just to make up squad numbers under the embargo. I don’t even think he would’ve been an improvement to us last year in League 1 and Pompey fans were ambivalent about him leaving and couldn’t believe a Championship team signed him. Stockport would probably have him back now they’re in League 2.

I think we'll go into next year with just Slater and Honeyman as the midfielders from this year. That means we need at least 3 midfielders to come in. That would give us 5 for the 3 midfield spots. We had 8 this year and there's a strong argument that 6 would be a better number. The last 2 could be more young prospects though

I'm assuming Doc will go, as if you're letting Smallwood go then Doc almost certainly will.

By letting Eaves and Richie go, we've made the rebuild this summer tougher. Any notion that 6/7 additions will be sufficient is garbage too

I think with Smallwood going we’ll hold onto Docherty for now. Like you said, 6 senior central midfielders would probably be enough. Slater, Honeyman, Docherty, Traoré, a new number 6 and a new box-to-box midfielder. Alfie Jones can also play as a number 6.

Regarding forwards, we now have KLP, Longman, Wilks, Scott, Tyler Smith and probably Allahyar. Wilks and Scott could still go this summer, as could KLP. We need at least two number 9s.

It might just be me but I'd find it counterproductive if we got rid of Smallwood but kept Doc. I'd much rather we sold Doch and triggered Richie's year. We know what Smallwood offers at this level and that was a lot more than Doc does. Like I said, Fernando & Traore along with 2 kids would be great. Maybe the Turkish Isaac Hayden when we got him under Bruce.

Forwards is a minefield as we don't know how we'll play. I agree we need 6 but the only 2 I'm confident will still be here are Allahyar and Longman. If we're playing a front 3, it's not like 6 forwards is a lot either.

I read yesterday that Stockport are looking to sign Cannon on a permanent deal, I don’t see Doc going anywhere, despite his poor performances, he’s much better than what we saw this season, I’m pretty sure of that.
As for Moncur, he’ll probably go, but I think Shota was trying to get a reaction out of him, to make him realise, he’s a decent player & if he puts the work in, he’d be around the first team. It’s like in any job, you try & help someone become better, but if they don’t, then you tend to just give up & wait for them to leave, if they aren’t pushed out by the management.

Smallwood wrong decision, other 2 no complaints. Elder and Wilks have sell on value, Emmanuel is our best right back if he’s fit for me. Good competition for Coyle, Ingram solid first choice goalkeeper. Honeyman is Honeyman.

Smallwood 31 though and probably got one more good move in him so who’s to say he wanted to stay on just a 1 year extension…

Yes agreed. Spot on with all of this. Smallwood has played an essential and possibly understated role in our progress. Whoever comes in as his replacement has big boots to fill. Good luck to him and thanks. Good honest professional.

They wanted to keep smallwood but he wanted a longer term deal with it being his last decent payday.
