Might help sell a few shirts over there if nowt else.

You're right mate, it can massively inflate the profile of a UK club.

If people believe Sunderland are watching them ...

... they'll start watching us,

I've seen, so many times, how people start supporting Sunderland for the most oblique of reasons ...

... then become lifelong committed fans who bleed red & white.

We should be all over that tbh, anything that can give is an edge commercially. I think the close season will be very very interesting at SAFC

The thing with this and all the other top players we could lose - do they go straight into a top 6 sides starting 11? Are they prepared to wait no matter the pay is? Or do they start on improved contracts with us knowing they'll be starting with us form and fitness permitting. It wont be as cut and dried as some assume.
I personally don't think anyone has earned a spot at a top 6 club this season, apart from Mukiele and Roefs.

There is still the possibility of Jhon Lucumi ending up at Sunderland but competition for the defender is being encouraged.

The Black Cats were constantly pursuing the defender’s signature in the summer. Right after his release clause expired, Sport Witness covered an offer to sign him being rejected.

His agent had also declared intentions of an exit, but Bologna held firm. Despite Lucumi doing well this season, the player hasn’t responded to attempts to renew his contract.

As a result, the Colombian is expected to leave in the summer and be one of the most sought-after players at that point.

Sunderland’s task is getting much more difficult now, with Il Resto Del Carlino taking a close look.

Bologna waiting for World Cup transfer boost

Bologna are now certain about selling Lucumi.

They know his value is falling due to his contract expiring in 2027 and that a sale has to happen this summer.

If Lucumi does well at the World Cup, they will be able to command a higher fee from his sale.

Sunderland remain interested but Barcelona are now mentioned. They see the 28-year-old is an alternative to Alessandro Bastoni, who is expected to cost quite a bit in the summer.

Lucumi has caught the Catalans’ attention, especially because his agent is at work to find a new destination.

In the meantime, Bournemouth have also joined the chase and see the Bologna man as a replacement for Marcos Senesi. There is also interest from Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, with both clubs described as ‘very rich’ suitors in the race.

Sunderland can run out of time

Due to how Bologna are operating, Sunderland can run out of time to sign Lucumi.

If the centre-back makes a mark at the World Cup, he will attract global attention and his agents and even the Rossoblu would love nothing more.

Besides, Lucumi is well capable of playing for a major club due to his clear European experience. That is why there is little surprise about Barcelona’s interest, which can definitely grow.

The Spanish side aren’t blessed financially but their interest is a sign that Sunderland’s task could get more difficult.

Italian clubs will also keep a close eye on the defender, potentially adding further roadblocks for Regis Le Bris.

There will need to be some major business done in the summer in my opinion. As it stands, going into the Spurs match, we have about 23 players available, one of which on loan and 5 currently not fit to play. We also have about 14 or so players out on loan....and I have no clue how many of those will return to the squad for next season.....instinct tells me not many.....and I'm not including player contract lengths here.
Something tells me it's going to be a very interesting summer window as we prepare for the next season at the top level!:emoticon-0102-bigsm
