I`m sure we`ll see some from the promotion squad move on plus a few of the newer signings too - in reality it`s got to be part of the process...

Whilst we will all be disappointed to see a few of the new faces leave - how much worse would it be if there was no interest in any of our first team...we wouldn`t be sat where we are in the league as they would have all been disappointments.

Seems to me that, at this stage, we will be a "selling club" but (hopefully) not one that has our pants taken down...most of the new lads are on 5 year contracts if I remember rightly (certainly the younger ones) so we won`t be "forced" into selling...

We do need to remember that being prepared to play these lads in the first team and then to sell if a "bigger club" comes along is likely to be part of our appeal at the minute...we won`t hamper career development...

Seems to me that the current squad really enjoys the shirt - given that a good number of them are likely to be at the World Cup in the summer it can only mean that they are likely to be saying what a great club we are to be part of...that can only help with recruitment...

Hopefully keep everyone we want to. Can see 4 or 5 first team squad players.

Back up to Reinildo and Xhaka especially.
Agree with that. For LB and CM, try to get the best players possible in the 19-20 sort of age range.

Importantly we need their drive and character to be top notch so they complement our tight-knit squad.

could it be a busy summer or will it be just adding a few? will we lose a few?

as most of them signed a 5 year deal it wont be cheap to get them out of it,

IF we do manage a conference/euro place then the squad will have to be considerably strengthened... there is no African Cup (?), so that's good... but more 1st teamers will be needed if league form isn't to suffer, or play reserves.

I am not anti playing in Europe... in fact I may well go on some of the "away" days.
But playing twice a week with a 'thin' squad, likely resulting in poor performances is something the powers that be, are well aware of.
So where we finish up in the league is likely to be a major factor in recruitment/selling in this summer's transfer window.

Agreed, I'm reluctant for Europe at this stage. 3 sides in Europe this year are well below us in the league.

Forest and Palace both had head coach drama at the end of last season before they qualified for europe at all. So I wouldn't treat europe as the reason imo. The recruitment team and board would know we would need to strengthen the squad a lot for it and thankfully we are in a good place to do so

Agree with those two cases, but I just think you see it too many times where Thursday night european games impact on the Sunday league fixture, over many seasons, unless you are one of the 'big 6' who invariably have a bigger, better quality squad, to deal with those demands.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see us in Europe (like many, I never have), but I just feel it could be a bit too early in our progress/project to be dealing with both demands.

I have full trust in our recruitment team and process, and if anyone can do it, it would be them, but I'm just wary of it coming too soon.

yeah I get those concerns, i do think though if europe is there you've got to do anything you can to take it for me, also the attraction you can have for better players that summer increases a lot which should hopefully help level up the entire club. I'd be buzzing with the uefa conference league

Agree on that to keep consolidating, but next level is one or two wingers and another forward. Not easy but then the sky's the limit.

edit: plus keeping Reoufs and Sadiki

It's definitely going to be a busy summer.

We've got 13 out on loan at the minute, (Adingra, Patto, Neil, Seelt, Masuaku, Hjelde, Pembele, Browne, Alese, Rusyn, Huggins, Semedo, Johnson) nearly all of them are likely to be surplus to requirements, plus quite a few fringe players and deadwood still here who we've outgrown (Ba, Moore,). Will Geertuida and Traore be re-signed? Cirkin is out of contract and Isidor could be away. Then there's the youngsters on the fringe like Harrison Jones and Aleksic and youngsters needing league experience like Young, Ogansuyi, Abdullahi, Geragusian, Neill and the other Jones boys. A lot of question marks on who will be retained.

Assuming permanent or loan moves for the above, that would leave us with Roefs, Ellborg; Hume, Mukiele, Ballard, O'Nien, Aldarete, Mandava; Rigg, Le Fee, Xhaka, Sadiki, Diarra; Mundle, Angulo,Talbi; Ta Bi; Brobbey and Mayenda. That's 19 players.

I think we'll bring in 4 or 5, plus replacements if any of our top players are sold. Probably more than that if we secure a European place. As it stands, I'd like a CB, who can also play at LB, A CM to cover for Xhaka, a leftie RW and a striker.

It's gonna be fun!

If we are still interested in Fatuwu at Leicester and I hope we are, we’d be able to pick up on a great deal. I know he’s being relegated to league one but earlier in the season, he looked a level above the Championship.

A guy I think could do a job for us and we’d certainly make a decent profit on him at some point.

Saw somewhere in the week that even though he has a release clause for 30m, that Leicester would accept 20m.

I thought we’d possibly get him even cheaper than that but I suppose It will come down to the interest in him. Leicester will need to sell now. 20m is cheap for the potential he has shown.

When people say it’s a year too soon for Europe I think about what I was hearing this time last year when they were saying it’s a year too early for promotion to the Premier League.

KLD etc have shown they can do the business and if we do qualify for Europe I’ve got full faith in them to do the same again.

I can’t remember when I’ve ever felt so positive with those running SAFC as I do now.
