When you buy a player the the fee is spread over the duration of the contract. When you sell a player you receive all of fee into your books.
So say Everton bought a player for £30m on a 3 year contract and also sold a player for £30m.

Very simplistic but it works something like this. In their accounts it would show as:

Revenue
23/24: £30m

Cost
23/24: £10m
24/25 £10m
25/26: £10m

So the 2 transactions essentially give Everton £20m profit in this year.

Yep, and the reason it is youth / academy players that are moving is they count as pure profit on the books. i.e there is no outstanding debt on a previous transfer fee to be paid off.

Does that mean that if a club is a part of the multi-club model, they could sell youngsters to the other clubs in their group in the same manner?

So could Saints sell kids to Goztepe and Valenciennes as a way to keep beyond FFP?

I think the rules are tighter where multi-club models are involved. But I don't recall the specifics.
They have to be really or, as you say, we could sell a youth team player to Goztepe for £60m every year.

Would’ve liked to keep him around, but who knows what happens behind the scenes. Lot of talk about players wanting out last year and maybe could only get loans instead of perm moves, and now the club just want to move on from them regardless.

Left back definitely an area we need a player now
