We all agreed the club should be looking at the free agent market as we need a third option. We're clearly doing that.
Acun has said theres money to spend in January on a striker. Most would agree, it would be a struggle until then if we didn't bring someone in.
We went after good targets in the summer; Conway, Cannon, Thomas-Asante, Bozenik, Stansfield and Fofana. Money was there for wages and/or fees. Let's say we had 7mil and 20k on wages to spend. We still have that money to spend - in theory.
We could go pay over the odds on wages to a free agent with a higher profile, and higher wages than Pedro. But as everyone keeps saying, they're free agents for a reason, theres an element of more risk on them. Most wouldn't go for a one year deal either. Something Pedro seems willing to do. I have no idea what his wages are but if he comes in and it 'works', his wages are worth it and we can extend his deal. If it doesn't, a good chunk of that kitty from the summer targets is still there for January and we cut our losses next summer.
We clearly want a young-ish experience striker in, they don't come cheap and simply aren't available outside of the window. We can argue all we want about how they should have been the priority in the summer but thats done now and we have to adjust accordingly.
It's a short term risk to plug a gap. Won't be as pricey as some free agents. 1 year deal and hopefully Acun has the inside scoop on him as a person, a player and his fitness.
I think we'll see him as an experience footballer coming on for Bedia in the last 15 mins of a game.
