‘Wait until the end of the window before judging’

Okay. This transfer window has not been ideal. We’ve made some good signings and it looked like a change in the right direction but we’ve still made the same fundamental mistakes as last summer. In fact, letting Óscar leave without a replacement is a carbon copy of what happened last summer. I get it, players turn us down, fees can’t be agreed with clubs etc. but yet again we’ve only got two strikers until January at the earliest and neither fill me with much confidence. Bedia is alright but may take time to settle (how many times have we made that excuse for new signings recently?) and Burstow was absolute cack at this level last season.

This is after a whole lot of piss and wind from our over-excited owner about bringing in a third striker if Óscar went. It’s inexcusable, really. The club has had over two months to assemble a squad for the new manager and they’ve left him short in key areas. If both strikers get injured for any significant length of time and/or Zambrano gets banned, we are knackered.

Well, regarding transfer deadline day coverage on Sky and BBC, it was shockingly bad. They just talked about the top teams. When did they stop going around the grounds?

I've defended Acun and Tan this window and on the whole the business has been very good. However I know Washington was only offered to clubs late today when Chelsea realised his move was off. So there is no way they had that one planned which means they've made a real mess of getting a striker in.

We have 2 options but as many have pointed out we are very light. Washington may save their bacon but if not they have let themselves down here and we will surely see a free signing join instead.

I'm sure it's not easy to get right, but when we've been told all summer that it's best to wait because the end of the window is when players become available and starting the season with half a squad because we're playing the long game (and I was happy to go along with all of this even though I didn't love it), to now miss out at the end because deals fall through and we run out of time to do another at the last minute, and for this to have happened several windows in a row now, well it's a bit of a ****show isn't it.

There's definitely been a lot of good business this window, but it does seem ridiculous that with months to do it we could never get round to signing the players we wanted, despite seemingly having the funds.
