Why are people still so obsessed by a quote from early in the summer that clearly didn't eventuate?

Someone has already kind of answered it. It’s not only a bold statement that has left people hanging, but also because of the “socks blown off” quote from years ago. It’s a new, exciting phrase to take the p*** out of because we’ve ‘heard it all before’.

No issue taking the piss but some to think it's actually happening!

At least 6 more expected:

  • A 3rd goalkeeper to challenge for number 1 - Highly rated coming in on loan (Seems a waste of the final loan spot)
  • Meffert expected
  • Puerta moving closer, could be completed before Millwall (Doubt it)
  • 2 wingers - Abu Kamara is a target, but have others in mind too
  • Braced for concrete interest in Oscar
  • Have another key striker target, which would be a permanent deal for a significant fee
  • Also says don't rule out a loan from the prem, but with a keeper and Puerta that would take us to 6 loans?
  • Seri going. Interest remains in McLoughlin and Giles. Plans in place if either do end up leaving

As already explained you can have more than 5 loans, just 5 is the max in the match day squad. It makes sense for a keeper as an “extra” loan if he’s just for emergencies as he will rarely be in that squad.

I know you can have as many as you want, but it’s stupid. You’ll have a pissed off player in the stand every week

It might be if they were all fit, all of the time. Chances are, at least one of them will likely be injured or have a niggle throughout the season. I think 6 is sensible. But many more and I’d say your point is well made. Especially as they would push other players out of the squad too.

Similar fee to what they offered for Philogene, but leaves Sunderland with 7 days to find a replacement. Maybe selling Greaves and Philogene early was a good decision

It’s not even a guaranteed £20m, it’s £15m plus £5m potential add-ons, so less than we got for Philo.

I struggle to understand this view, whilst he was at the Afcon we were proper bollocks and his introduction to his national side got them the trophy. He’s 33 and it’s certainly time if we are going to do it seen as there’s been a complete overhaul but to say we won’t miss a player of his quality just simply isn’t true.
Everyone’s an expert now aren’t they with no real understanding of a player and what they do in a team.

Why on earth would a keeper come on loan here to sit in the stand? Why would their club be happy to do it?

It's great that players are coming through the door with more yet to come.

We will however inevitably be a complete unknown in terms of ambitions for a few months yet.
Have we uncovered some real gems, will they click together, can they learn Walter's style and does Walter's style even work in this division.

Makes for an exciting season though.

My benchmark as to whether we have strengthened sufficiently will be whether £50K struggles to get into the starting 11 or not.
If he turns out to be a regular starter, then we're not making the playoffs this year again.

He's not going to be first choice judging by the early subs in both Championship games so far. I'd say once in Meffert and Puerta will both be ahead of him, as will Zambrano and Simons. Then if you're playing Omur as a 10 him as well.

Unless Tim isn’t happy with 1/2 of the current goalkeepers and this one comes in to actually challenge

Wonder if we could see Pandur get a loan deal, if he goes back to sitting on the bench he won't be happy and his value will plummet also. If Racioppi is going to be No. 1 (which we all expect?), then it might make sense to keep his value high for a sale next summer?

This might seem harsh but they’ve hardly covered themselves in glory so far. I know it’s very early days to make that comment from a fan point of view but Tim has seen them every day in training. If they are making a high percentage of errors there too, then you are probably right!

I'm not so sure TW didn't think he would fit into his system, he said in his interview yesterday with RH, they have known for a while his intentions, so I think he was left out because TW knew he was not staying.
He also said in an interview a couple of weeks or so back that Seri was among the best players he's ever worked with, maybe even said the best. He clearly admires him greatly as a player and a person by the sound of that earlier interview, and so I think you are right John.
