No I'm not. I can't think of any youngsters in the loan pool who are attainable who've had a least a year of Championship football under their belt.

There were 118 players on loan in the Championship last season, another 27 in League One and a load more that could come out of nowhere (Harry Wilson anyone?), there'll definitely be some decent players available on loan.

always the chance, carvahlo was a one off, and is def not the bar

We sign Marvin Mehlem. An attacking player that looks high quality, who has good experience in a decent league!

We’ve also signed Cody Drameh. Again, a player who has good experience and looks high quality.

We seem to have just missed out on Moore and Thomas-Asante. Both fit the above criteria. Not all are going to go perfectly.

We are heavily linked with some players who are highly regarded.

We have got rid of A LOT of deadwood/high earners who were not good enough.

This transfer plan is a careful, considered approach. The opposite of the Arveladze season which proved to be a disaster.

I’ve said before, the only one gone that is unexpected and disappointing is Tufan.

Yes, time is running out. But we aren’t far off putting together a decent XI for that first game.

We are way off a good enough squad. However that’s where the later transfers and loan market will come in.

I expected to come on this board since we announced Marvin Mehlem and hope that things had settled down a bit. If anything, there’s more doom and gloom! Dread to think what Marvin, Tim or anyone at the club thinks if they read it!

Anyway, I’m pleased with the quality we have managed to get in so far. I’m pleased that Oscar is back, I think he will score goals for us. I am obviously hopeful we will sign at least one experienced winger before Bristol. An experienced goalkeeper would be nice too. Would people relax a bit then? Or are they happy that it’s ‘all going wrong’ so they have something to moan about? :bandit:

Anyone else quite content so far and looking forward to the season?

Good post there’s some on here who already predict they won’t get any Christmas presents - , the jury is out for me until we get what we are after - assuming we do . I think we’ve been ‘unlucky ‘ or commercially sensible so far . You don’t pay £500 for a £300 chair do you .

Really? I think we're 4-5 players away from a decent starting XI. Still need two wingers, a striker, a CB to replace Greaves and arguably a GK.

I didnt know we are after him..?

I haven't watched any of the preseason games but if Walter's style is so unconventional, where does that leave us on the list of clubs for PL teams to loan their stand-out talent?

Rosenior had pull, no doubt, but he played a system that would really benefit development.

Do these big clubs want to send their best players out for a year to play a different way? I'm not sure why they would send anyone they plan to keep

Don’t think centre back for the first 11 is an absolute priority, Macca has stepped up before and was an absolute hero, he can do it again. He was rightfully kept out the side last year by Greaves, but Greaves is a special talent and won’t be replaced.

Given our efforts to get McKenna and/or Hughes, I don't think the club shares that thought.

That would be ideal. But when I say decent XI, I don’t mean it’ll be our best XI for the season. Just good enough to get some points on the board in the first few games. <cheers>

Going on loan to a team that play a very similar style to yours has obvious benefits.

However, I think sending players to a team who are going to play positive front foot football, with players expected to take possession of the ball in tight spaces is still very attractive. It’s not as though they will be sending players to a team who are just going to lump it.

Rosenior did have credit in the bank, but Tan and the club also have credit and will be trusted until they can’t be trusted with players.

It’s not a terrible championship 11 we could play at the minute IMO, it’s below average but their are plenty of others in a similar boat

Giles, Omur, Seri on form are top champ players.

Coyle, Drameh, Slater, Jones, Oscar all solid

McL has shown he’s competent at this level.

Simons, Mehlem and probably Longman on balance are the unproven. We’ll likely be competitive in games just no quality to score goals

It's called depth - you don't have a full season of over 50 matches (including Cup games) with two senior centre halves.

Other than a left winger, and possibly a gk, the starting XI for Bristol is a decent championship team. Quality of subs is the issue.

Add Hughes , Mckenna, Miller, McAteer, the South American CM (name escapes me), a forward and a GK. We would be a strong squad. These are all deals we are apparently working on if speculation is correct.
Throw in some loans too, and we could be challenging for top 6 (if Walterball actually works!)

Yes, OLM, defo some good players available on loan. On Harry Wilson, specifically, excellent player, dodgy temperament??...When he was at City I noticed that during the warm up no one ever passed the ball to him...Perhaps he wasn't liked!!

On McKenna at Forest. I hope, if he comes in, he's better than the last one!!

Anyone know whats taking so long with signing the Greaves replacement from Wigan?

From what i've read we havent even agreed a fee with Wigan yet. He's a young, promising, English centre-half and Wigan rightly want a decent amount for him, as we do for any of our players. They also know exactly what we got for Greaves so can maybe take the piss a little. But either pay what they want or move on.. dragging it out for 2 weeks now is ridiculous.

You watch another club just come in, pay the asking price and he'll be holding up their shirt within a few days.

I don't think we have near enough quality on the wings, and jury's out on Oscar up top.
