He's a good player and would improve us but it feels similar to the Turkish signings we've made in the past. I don't think he'd stick around very long, he'd cost a good chunk in both transfer fees and wages, he's at the wrong age and we're almost certain to lose money on him. Surely we'd be better off trying to sign somebody younger (around 22-24) and grow and develop them. Hopefully not having to shell out as big wages.
I agree on the whole, I think slater falls under that category long term though? Hopefully we sign someone in this mould too though as we need a good mix of players like this and youth to be successful long term as well as short

Yes, but I'm still not sure what type of midfielder he is, he'll probably suit playing as an 8.

We've got a solid amount of experience remaining, so for the defensive midfielder role I'd prefer someone younger.

Google milner, or claridge, or our own Swan.

There's better examples probably, but they're good enough to play where they're needed and do a job.

Get over the ****ing champ/FIFA/stats .

He's what a footballer and team player is all about in the real world.

The glue that gives the technicians the opportunity to play their game.

He's an Ashbee in the making for me, if he sticks around long enough.

Another 9 pages since this afternoon.

Can someone please summarise what, if anything has actually happened in the last few days? Or have we just had 50 pages discussing clauses and options?
Yep , Ian Ashbee is making a comeback , Slater has got an Oscar for the Sweeney , and you can buy a Villa for about £15m , does that help ? also , nobody has got any signatures so autographs are scarce

Just catching up on the Philogene stuff now so not sure if this has been asked, but if Villa were to buy him back then potentially sell him directly to Ipswich. This would then surely mean we wouldn’t be able to insert a sell on fee ourselves if he moved on from there?
there's the human element to consider too, why would philogene agree a transfer to villa knowing they're going to sell him straight on? what if a 2nd deal fell through? what if that left him on the fringes for a season?

Baz saying we're prepared to keep Jaden if an acceptable deal can't be reached.

As we've accepted bids wtf does that mean?
I suspect it means:
1) Ipswich’s combined bid for both Philo and Greaves is the best, but may have inflated Jacob’s price vis a vis Philo’s to reduce amount paid to Villa
2) Philo doesn’t want to go to Ipswich
3) Ipswich’s bid for Jacob alone falls short
4) Villa’s activation of their clause means we don’t get enough dosh selling back to Villa, and we don’t have to sell
5) it’s stalemate

It could be that we are lowering the Philogene fee in the joint deal and Villa are having none of it. They’ve called Acun’s bluff by matching the bid and Acun’s next play is to threaten not to sell him at all.

The only thing that has me scratching my head is that I don’t think Philogene and his agent would play ball in this scenario.

How will you keep these two lads happy from now on? I don't think Jaden will perform next season if PL bids are declined.

On point 4 it they've matched the bid and Jaden wants to go we do have to sell.
