It was an incredible piece of business by us at the time, and still is ...just maybe not quite as incredible as we thought, but still incredible. We've had a player of Philogenes quality for a season and made a big profit. What's not to like about that? Seriously.

I guess if we were fans of spreadsheets
But how much profit is irrelveant to fans

I’m not sure what’s changed, Villa always had a sell on clause. Regardless where he ends up, they were always getting it.
We’ll end up at least doubling our money in a year….why wouldn’t you take that

But we receive the same as we'd have to pay them the 30% regardless. It makes sense if they actually want the player though.

But if Ipswich give us 18m, we give 30% to Villa….whats the difference ?

Villa can sell him straight on to Ipswich for the already agreed £18m (pocketing £6m) and add on their own sell on clause. Rather than us holding the sell on clause with Ipswich.

Perhaps.

Regardless of whether it’s £18 million, £12 million or £6 million, the good news is we can reinvest that money in signing James Bree and Oliver Norwood and that is the most important thing. Building a squad for the future.

Doesn't affect us as we lose 30% to Villa either way*. The only thing it might mean for us is that this drags out a bit longer.

Villa could buy back to sell on which would make them a tidy bonus but comes with risk. We still leave the deal with the same cash. Ultimately making 7.5/8mil profit on a player in a year regardless of what we think the value could be is smart business. If we could do that every year we'd be laughing.

*one caveat is that if the double deal at Ipswich is 40mil (for arguments sake), its sounds live we're trying to construct the deal as 25 mil JG and 15 mil JP to reduce the 30% sell on as much as possible by putting as much as the value as possible in the JG part of the deal.

James Bree is a good signing!

You need to check twitter anyway, the number 6 we’ve needed has just been linked

Seri out, Yokuslu in? Wouldn't be a bad bit of business. Experienced in the Championship and in general, a buddy for Abdus, 30 years old so probably has one more move in him. Oh, and he's a proper DM.

Same agent as Allayah and Tufan so might be a go-er.
