I also thought last year was the building year. But given we seem since the end of last season to have dismantled much of what was built, I'd say we are pretty much back to square one. New coach who the existing (threadbare) squad need to get used to, and about 10 new players needed. . And there isn't a manager anywhere who would get all 10 of these right. If Walter does get us into the top 6 in his first season, it will be remarkable.

How could you think last year was a building year when we had 6 on loan? Delap, Morton and Fabio were always very likely to go back and they were huge players for us.

You add in the usual few players leaving off contract and the other loanees and it's always going to be a major rebuild.

Well I guess so, but then he wouldn't be sanctioning all of this if he didn't think it would work. He probably understands the financial side of it pretty well and he talks about it a lot, he'll be aware of what might happen if we have to keep starting over.

I’m cautiously hopeful. Just recent evidence doesn’t feel long term

Same every year
Just a lot made of it in the allams final years
But it’s pretty normal
Apart from Tufan and butterfingers the rest were loans gone back or out of favour players like the doc

I’d love it if I was Walter
Clean slate all players who I want to bring in to come in

It depends when we are talking about.
Back last summer, with what was coming out of Rosenior's mouth, and Acun's / Tan's, it absolutely did sound like it was a "building year". We were going to add the missing pace, power, width, attacking flair, goals, etc. to the solid foundation we had.
Then also, during the season, the noises being made were that we would be hopeful of keeping some of the loanees, either for another season or permanently.
It just didn't really happen as per the promises and wishful thinking.
What's happening now can be viewed as it all falling apart. I didn't foresee Tufan leaving. I personally think we will see expected departures (Greaves, Philogene) as well as 2 more previously unexpecteds (Omur and Seri). And tbf I thought and posted as much before today's rumour.
The other way of viewing it is that it clears the way and provides a war chest for Walter to rebuild his own squad.
I'm not sure which way to view it atm!

There's no decent reports linking Seri or Omur with moves away, I can't believe people are getting worked up over some Turkish kid on Twitter who calls everyone 'bro' and has hardly any followers.

You can't believe City fans are getting worked up..... Come on, you've been around long enough to know it doesn't take much ;)

Just because you’ve got loans it doesn’t mean it’s not a building year.

You can build loads of things despite having loans - integrating youth players into the first team - getting players used to a playing style - talks with loanees to sign permanently - building a list of things to improve with your manager for next year - improving engagement with fans.

I think we expected Greaves and Jaden to go - but I think most of us hoped 1 or 2 of the loanees might sign permanently before Rosenior was sacked. I don’t think any of us thought Tufan might go at that point. We have definitely taken apart most things we built on the pitch last year.

Yep.
That's why I said after the Tufan news and now again today "I think....".
Irrespective of the 'Turkish kid on Twitter', I could and can see it happening. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if both go; in fact, I'm now expecting it. I hope I'm wrong, as once Philogene goes, Omur would literally be the only remaining player currently in our squad that I would have been excited to see next season. 1 player in the whole squad 2 1/2 years into Acun's ownership!!
Edit: although I'd love it, just love it ( :emoticon-0105-wink: ) if Oscar comes back and Fleming stays and then both smash it.
