5? Looks like 2 in 10 from what I can see! 7 starts and 3 as sub. (EDIT: Whoscored.com say 5 goals in 10!?)

That said he's worth a whopping £500K (£250K on transfer market) so he must be some talent.

Sarcasm aside he surely needs another (very good) year up there to prove he's ready for a move to the championship?

Maybe worth a punt at that price when were so short of strikers, imo we need 2 that can come and compete for the starting spot and another who is happy to be backup and take any opportunities he gets which he may well fit the bill for that.

Given our budget constraints I’m not sure we can. 500k for someone who’s very highly rated, quick and good in general play might be a snip.

Hoenstly, this whole situation regarding option vs obligation to buy is as clear as mud. If Giles prefers Boro, could he not just refuse to sign a contract with us even if we have an obligation to buy? What happens to the £4.25 million we’re supposed to pay to Luton if he doesn’t want to sign for us?

This is something Baz has covered recently. He mentioned that it is definitely an obligation, but Giles choosing not to come here is one theoretical reason why it might not happen even despite the obligation on us.

So what happens if Giles chooses not to come here? Do we still have to give £4.25 million to Luton?

The reason I ask is because Leeds were sued and forced to pay millions for a player they didn’t sign because they had him on loan with an obligation to buy if promoted but Leeds argued the deal expired due to COVID delaying the regular season. They still had to pay eventually despite never signing the player.

We only have to pay if we sign him, if he decides he'd rather go to Boro, then they'll pay for him instead.
 
Also, if you sign a player on loan with an obligation to buy but their loan spell is disappointing and you don’t want them, couldn’t the club just sabotage contract negotiations by offering extremely crappy terms like minimum wage per week, the deal falls through and the club doesn’t have to pay the fee for the obligation?

This is why I’m asking whether we still have to pay the transfer fee even if Giles doesn’t want to come.

I'm sure in that instance we'd have no liability. It'll surely be worded as an obligation to agree the fee and go ahead with it, but we can't have agreed to pay for a player even if he decides not to come, that'd be insane.

The Leeds one was different because it was they who changed their minds and tried to worm their way out of signing him, which in itself was funny because their fans had been bragging to anyone who'd listen that Augustin was the best player in the Championship when they initially got him on loan.
