Without looking at all our goals last season, I can recall Stoke away and Southampton away when his distribution directly led to a goal. He’s not the best keeper we’ve ever had but the way some on here talk he’s worse than Hesford. The way he’s been treated by our owner is disgraceful.
And Millwall away, but apart from that, what did the Romans ever do for us?

Allsop’s distribution didn’t win us any points. His shot stopping certainly lost us points though. Perhaps as a team without the benefits of parachute payments we should try prioritising signing players who are good at their primary job

Not going to argue now about what Allsop did or didn't do because we've done that to death, but the problem with this populist thing of just getting rid and getting in a basic shot-stopper like we had in the good old days, is that we've appointed another modern manager who supposedly wants to play football, use his keeper in the buildup and have him playing way high up the pitch in possession, so this problem isn't going to go away. Either Acun and the moaners get their way and Walter has some clogger forced upon him, or we use Allsop or someone else like him.

Allsop did make some great saves. His distribution was alright as well (went off the boil a fair bit towards the end of the season, possibly because the outfield players moved more, created more and passed far more effectively)... But he cost us points on various occasions by not stopping shots most keepers would be disappointed at letting in.

I don’t think him going creates a problem more than it does solve one.

Allsop only had distribution though. We don’t need an extremely good ball player first and foremost in goal FFS. Sure it’s important but I reckon a manager would much rather have someone who isn’t beaten at his near post everytime and is statistically the worst shot stopper in the division.

It's like having a striker who only scores 3/4 a season, brings sod all else to the team but he's defended because he wins defensive headers at corners

By all accounts, that's exactly what Tim Walter thinks his teams need.

I doubt he wants the worst shot stopped in the division to go hand in hand with the ball playing though.

When you frame it like that, nobody would want that clearly. But Rosenior wanted Allsop, and I think there's a pretty good chance Walter would too if he gets the choice. Either way, he's said to choose his goalkeeper based on his build-up play first and foremost because it's so important to the style.

Modern footy baffles me. The day a goalies feet are more important than his hands is the day the lunatics have taken over the asylum.
