I find it amazing that a midfielder, or any player for that matter, only managed a couple of tackles and interceptions during a game. Seems ridiculously low.

Isn't that when you have to look along side other stats like possession. Surely if we have better possession there's less chance/need to make a tackle?

Yeah but we make the fewest tackles in the division and we’re also ranked bottom for winning the tackles we do attempt so it’s the worst of both worlds.

It’s on par with having the fewest shots in the division whilst also having the lowest shot accuracy. If you’re not making many tackles per game because you dominate possession, it’s important that you win more tackles than you lose when you do make them.

Not sure how much he’d cost, probably around the same amount as Haji Wright, but Kévin Denkey is having a brilliant season in the Belgian league for Cercle Brugge. 25 goals in 31 league appearances this season so he knows how to score goals. You can argue about the quality of the Belgian league but the goal is the same size regardless. Haji Wright scored fewer in Turkey before Cov signed him and I’d argue the Belgian league is closer in intensity to England than Turkey.

I think we'll see some experience at the top end of the field this summer

What have you heard? I’m going to name a few see if I’m in the right track.

McBurnie
Rodriguez
Woodrow
Wood
King
Ray Manaj

There’s a few to go at. A left field one is Jizz Hornkamp in Holland. Yes that’s his name. Scored a few and brilliant at pressing.

Denkey will go to a big club, I think that one’s sailed.

You’re probably right. Will probably go to a French club like Nice or summat for £8-10 million. I was being optimistic lol.

I’m still pissed off we couldn’t sign Ndayishimiye in summer 2022. He went to Nice the following January for €11 million rising to €16 million. Think we had a bid of £4-4.5 million accepted by Başakşehir but couldn’t agree wages. 6 months on and Nice signed him for twice that much at least.

Totally agree, that’s the sort we need to be looking at, before the big move.

That’s why I think we should look at Cheick Condé at FC Zürich this summer. He’s valued around £3-4 million. 23-years-old, an athletic modern defensive mid, really good at reading the game off the ball, good at tackling, interceptions and generally winning the ball in the middle of the pitch and he’s also very comfortable on the ball as well. Good composure and able to carry the ball after winning it back and also has good passing range. Could be the ideal long-term replacement for Seri.

Marlon coming out of retirement, or jail or wherever he is now?

I think the definition of a tackle on stat websites is keeping possession after dispossessing an opponent or putting it out of play. Recoveries is probably one someone like Slater does better in. Our midfielders all average really low tackles made

The top tackles in the league is Sheaf with something like 2.3 a game.

Yet we're 7th!
