Would be odd if we're expecting a ban but loaned him anyway, unless it's just in case the ban is 2+ years? Should have just bought him otherwise.
You would imagine the option/obligation kicks in once the length of the ban is determined. If city are happy with the duration the move becomes permanent. If not, the deal remains a loan, we pay his wages for the season, and we never see him again.
I think we really rate Zambrano and would probably wait out a ban - unless it is particularly excessive. This hanging over him was the only reason we could bring him in ahead of other suitors (Brighton and Luton). I don’t think we’ll give up on him when he gets the ban - although we did think it would be relatively short.
If it's anything less than a 12 month ban, it makes sense to buy him anyway. At his age we'll be offering like a 4 year contract, so it'll be well worth it. I'm not sure what the ban actually entails, presumably he can still train and be at the club.
