With six signings supposedly still being worked on, none of them sounding imminent and less than 48 hours left, I think we probably ought to be prepared for the disappointment of one or two of them falling through. This happens every year and we always end up going into the autumn with slightly less firepower than we intended to because we run out of time to do things at the last minute. I really don't like that the window works this way but it seems to be the reality for a club in our position.

Cooper sounds like its done. Rushworth apparently had his medical yesterday - so perhaps just 4 to do.

Meffert and Kamara seem to be just about there too, so maybe not as much work to do as it looks.

We're just badly run, and there's not another term for it. We repeatedly go into the last week of the summer window needing to do a significant amount of business.

I'm sure Acun likes the PR but signing a free agent in the last week of the window is a lack of thought.

You're just not giving the manager a chance.
I don’t think there was a situation this summer where we didn’t have a fair bit to do in the last week.

I don’t think we are badly ran, we just aren’t the most organised due to an impatient approach. I think this summer we have turned a corner due to the number of permanents and then loans with options/obligations. Next summer we won’t have as much to do.

You’ve also got to remember that the last days of a window suits some selling clubs. Canon has interest from 4 or 5 clubs all looking to buy him for £5-6 million. They know someone (probably Luton) will crack and give them £8 million in the final days because of the pressure

We could have offered £5 million on day one of the window but Leicester we’re always going to play the long game on this one.

Last seasons transfers or lack of permanent ones have cost us this year. Many on here said it, it was a very short sighted approach from Acun which banked on us going up.

As you said, with the amount of permanent transfers this window we'll be in a much stronger position this time next year.

Other opportunities present themselves in the dying embers of the windows as the dominos fall. It makes sense to keep a bit of flexibility to capitalise on this when it arises.

I would have preferred to have the striker in before the last 48 hours, but Acun’s a gambler and it may well pay off yet.
Agreed. In the shorter term, if we are going to compete with the parachutes, we have to gamble.

Acun saying this yet he ripped the team up and seems he was happy last season the mind boggles.

"I think that the process is going good, I enjoy it, but I will be enjoying it more when I see the performance of the players like we saw last year. I want our fans to understand what a big team we made last year.".

I think it was just another way of saying “We were able to bring in quality last year, we will do it again.” That’s the way I interpreted it.

Edit: As in, we might not see the quality yet on paper, but they will come good and you will see.

Any news yet on who the other striker is we are/were after? Baz said on Monday we're working on 3 deals.. since then its come out Andi Zeqiri rejected us and that we've put a bid in for Cannon. Hopefully that means we still have a chance at getting the 1st choice striker, the one who Acun says will make others take notice.. :emoticon-0165-muscl

Will Keane.

No 1 should have been Ohio, he’d have been great for Wallyball!
Ship long sailed, but surprised we didn't sign him.
He clearly had potential. Appeared to love it here. Wouldn't have cost much. Scores goals. Had already gone through a settling in process. Sell on potential if he smashed it.
That would have been 1 striker slot sorted from the start.

I hope we do/find out. But I will say I have loved the rumours so far. Some have seemed ridiculous but then look what names we have had at this level before and even in recent times. What a great time to be a City fan that we are even discussing them. I remember the days not long ago when a top player coming to ‘Hull City’ was not even an option.

And the successful permanents will have to be sold again next year to fund the club
And so it goes

I think this is true, and it looks like we're doing something similar with McLoughlin. We seem to be happy to let him go, but of course we're doing our own business first and until then we're using him in our first eleven. I suppose there's a hierarchy like this right through the leagues of clubs selling to lesser clubs but only when they are ready. Unless you're at the top of that chain you're always waiting on someone.

As for this thing about it being better next year due to the permanent deals. Hopefully, but that depends on how the players turn out and how prepared we are to persist with them if they're not perfect. Most of the players we let go this summer were permanents rather than loans but we fancied ourselves to do better than them, and that meant signing 15 or so players.
