And leeds brought in a gk from league two
    To sit on their bench

    Darlow is far too expensive
And unless we get him for free wages
    Hes a waste

    Sure

But we have bought two keepers
    In

This keeper debate has been a painful read. So here I am to add to it.

I was a bit surprised to hear we're after a third, because I thought Racioppi was probably Walter's man long term. It now seems that's not the case, and I assume this third one must be a good quality one who Walter trusts can play his style particularly well. We were told from the first days of being linked to Walter that he would be very particular about his goalkeeper, needing him to be able to play his way as a higher priority than his shot-stopping ability. I suspect it's not Darlow, probably a bigger name. I think Darlow gets way too much focus from our fanbase. He was a good loan at a certain time but I don't think he's a Walter-type goalkeeper.

I think after being over-criticised in pre-season, Pandur has become a bit over-hyped based on his league performances. He's made some good saves definitely, but I don't think that's the be all and end all. Some will scoff at that but in a progressive team in 2024 a goalkeeper has to do other things too.

They desperately have to cut the wage bill. If it is him we won't be paying what they are. And we know he's got the mentality to be a backup if he's not in the side.

Nah, Far too sensible. Where's the manufactured outrage?

With no experience and both clearly have flaws.

We don't know for sure it is darlow. But much of the argument against is about bringing in a 3rd full stop.

Are Leeds desperately trying to cut their wage bill or are they paying the large majority of his wages? Can't be both..

Either way it's a stupid deal for us.

    No
    3rd keeper is sensible
Almost all teams have 3 keepers in their squad

But darlow is expensive and potentially ruining experience of our keepers

Get a heaton or someone older who is just for cover

A cheap 3rd keeper is fine, but Acun is hyping it up as much more than that.

Last time they were desperately trying to cut their wages bill they effectively subsidised us to take Barmby.

So yes, you'd be surprised at the proportion they may be willing to subsidise.

Like Darlow is doing at Leeds, Did for Newcastle before? It's going to be a year loan on a subsidised wage FFS.

He's either **** and will be a pure backup, or will be expensive and hog the jersey to the detriment of our permanents.

Can't be both, which is it?

Or is it really just that he took the better contract at leeds 12 months ago and you don't like it?

Have I got this right or am I too tired to care..
Darlow is swopping Leeds United’s subs bench to come here monitor and give them his vast experience to our two
inexperienced ( in the championship) keepers…and be third choice??? Have I got that right ?… my only question is….Why ? I’m ****ing way too tired and making no bloody sense, **** it pick the bones out of that if you can… good night !!!

Not 100% sure it's Darlow, but it's a loan keeper who the owner is deliberately teasing the identity of via his PR mouthpiece in Barry Cooper. Whether it's a 3rd choice older player or someone who could challenge for No1 is still speculation.

However, many of the arguments made against signing a 3rd keeper would apply regardless of the specific identity of the player.

And if you look at what's being said about loans -its probably quite feasible someone who isn't going to be a regular squad member when everyone's fit, simply Because it's looking like 6 total loans.

But you can't simultaneously make the argument that the player is both coming in as an expensive, disruptive influence that will stunt Pandur and Racioppi whilst at the same time acknowledging Darlow has been content to play second fiddle for a lot of his career.

The 2 arguments can't exist by the same logic.

As far as I've seen it's only been hinted by McKechnie on here. He said he's been told that by someone. I think it's a very easy link to make so there's a good chance someone has got it wrong.

Putting that to one side, I just don't think it makes much sense for it to be Darlow. The combination of his wages, his well-stated desire to play regularly when he left Newcastle, the comments about it being a big surprise and a highly rated goalkeeper (in fact didn't Baz even say from the Premier League at one point?), Walter's well-known demands of his goalkeepers and comments I can remember Rosenior making about Darlow regarding his experience (lack of) with playing out from the back when he was here. I just don't think it adds up. If I'm wrong and it is him then you'll find me in the "I don't get that one personally" camp.
