Im sure Redknapp said in an interview that he didn’t know he had that in his locker. Said the first time he saw it was after he left Saints and was at Portsmouth/Spurs and he was doing it for Stoke. He said he thought something along the lines “why the **** didn’t anyone tell me he could do that”
And why didn't he ask himself?!

Full backs tend to take throw ins, so don’t think you can’t really blame a manager for not asking a centre mid if he can take long throws.

I played with a guy who had Delap level long throws and he wouldn’t shut up about it, so it is a bit surprising that Delap wouldn’t have mentioned it at all, it’s a pretty unique talent

Yep £4mm for a one trick long throw pony.... But worth it for that scissor kick

I was at that game. I didn't like Delap much because he didn't seem to do anything except run around a lot, and the fact he was our record signing made it worse in my eyes. I was having a good moan about him to the guy in front of me before the game. When Delap scored that goal the guy in front turned round and screamed DEELAAP! Laughing his head off. That incident and that goal are the only noteworthy things that I can remember from his time at Saints.

I more just meant you'd think there would be a time where the manager would say to all the players - "what do you think you are best at?". But I guess not

The useless twat would've had to get out of his office and talk to someone to find that out.

I think that sadly sums Harry up. If memory serves right we signed Delap in the summer of 2001, Redknapp did not join to late 2094 and Delap left in 2005 on a free. Originally, I thought he would be a good signing, was always a handy FF player as often got goals at Derby

If Harry is still around in 2094, we all need to get worried!

If the rumours are true then the Delap bid is our second for him. It seems odd that we would be bidding multiple times if he was definitely not for sale and/or not interested in a permanent move

Definitely, I think the actual transfer bid is usually the last part to be agreed in the process

Bloody hell!!! This is absolutely amazing but such a huge gamble. What are this board on, I want some.
There's a reason why City don't want to sell - he's going to be amazing in the future. He'll replace Kane as England's number 9 one day. But at the end of the day, Delap needs to play.

But mainly he ran around and took long throws, which it seems no one can remember o_O

I asked Mrs S what she remembered of Rory and she said ‘long throws’

I don’t know where you lot were?

I do remember the throws. He used to dry the ball with his shirt first, and there’d be a buzz of anticipation round the ground, sometimes. What I don’t remember, is one of those long throws ever resulting in a goal for us.

Can't find a link but there's a coach in the USA who reckons he can train anybody in (IIRC) five days to do long throws to the penalty spot. I've never worked out why teams in the UK don't get him over for a month or so and rotate players through his training get everyone in the team able to do it. If everyone can do it you have a large element of uncertainty in the defence every time there's a throw in their defensive half.
