Should probably put a pin in the above prediction since there is a good chance it will be 100% wrong. Not least because we are already signing someone for £12m in a deal that will be announced very soon. And also we don't really sign 15 year olds for the academy.

15/16/17 we always sign pointless players for the academy, was it Simeu last season?

Fair enough a 12 million player instead of my 10 million then. We'll ignore the extra 2 because of inflation.

Does anyone remember seeing rumours around January linking Lyanco with other clubs even though he had only just joined? It is not impossible that he might be moved on already as part of this squad overhaul. I don't see it personally but there were definitely rumours about

Yes. He’s talked about having a head of transfers of sorts to work alongside him since he started. By all accounts the business bit isn’t quite his bag. Obviously the club has been stalled as a whole for a while now so they haven’t brought anyone in. This would be a very promising and suitable appointment if they can get it.

Yeah, understandably so. I'd imagine that the amount of behind-the-scenes work* that goes into progressing from the point of the target acquisition to the time when a contract is signed is pretty high, especially if you're trying to oversee a football club as a whole.

*most of this should be read as a synonym for what used to be called 'tapping up'.

Simeu is hardly pointless. Performed really well in League Two as a 19 year old by all accounts, and my guess is that he'll either be on loan to a Championship squad next season, or getting his first taste of first-team football with us.

And Vitesse with Chelsea.

I guess the point that was trying to be made is the successful examples still all involve top division sides in different countries - not those in the second tier.
However the Turkish side have only just been relegated - so could go up again. And the latest link is for the side that finished 4th in the Polish league

We also should remember that we are at least one rung below the focal point clubs of previous successful examples - Chelsea and RB Leipzig. More than one in the case of chelsea. So we couldn't expect our lower tier network clubs to be of a similar size. And if anything lower division european clubs might be more beneficial for our youth players as they will presumably be less physical than the likes of League One but also more competitive than the youth leagues / involve playing against fully grown adults.

Yeah, I don't see the current links in the same way that I see the Red Bull and City group sides but thats possibly just confirmation bias. The smart side of my brain says if anything, the traffic will be the other way and we will be trying to place our less stellar talent into these clubs to hopefully raise their levels probably with a view to increasing the value. That's what I'd be doing in Sport Republic's shoes.

If nothing else, banishing underperforming players to the Turkish Second Division would be really cathartic.

(Yeah, I'm aware that they'd have to agree to it, but still).

Its also worth remembering that SR won't stop with Turkish 2nd division sides. We are less than 1 year into the new ownership model; acquisitions of this nature take time. In 5 years time we could well have clubs in Ligue 1 and the portuguese 1st division - both of which recruit amazing talents often sold to the premier league for mega fees.

Also, it seems some people think the acquisition of other clubs and Saints player recruitment are mutually exclusive. Every time SR are linked to a new club I see "bUt WhAt AbOuT sAints TrAnsFeRs?"

Let's wait until the window is actually over shall we, or maybe even get to the halfway stage, before we conclude that we are doomed and start preparing those "Sports Republic out" banners

I maintain that the budgets are almost certainly separate. I refuse to believe that if they are looking at buying a club for 20m for SR and a player for southampton and the selling club want and extra 5m that they will pull the plug on the entire club purchase.

I expect they are being treated as completely different branches. Mentally silo’d off. In that even if there was no bid for another club or no model where new clubs were being purchased that they still wouldn’t be adding that extra player money

But many clearly don’t see it that way. They see it as zero sum where any money SR is not spending on saints is “lost”

Hate to be a pedant but No Limit was released in 1993. It’s when music started, and came to a blazing end all in one track.

I just realised I actually meant Black Box - Ride on time ( though “no no no no no no no, there’s no lyrics” is pretty crap).

Ride on Time completely changed all that had gone before in the 1980s and to me heralded the beginning of the 90s dance scene. Heather Small though did go on to be successful with M People though as she searched for the hero inside herself.

I think a lot of fans compartmentalise it as “Southampton are buying a club and wasting their money.” That’s not how this works. We are owned by SR. They have invested in us but they will invest in other things too. Much like the Glazer Family invest in other areas, Markus obviously did too. Every ownership of a football team, wether it’s a private individual or a big holding company is going to have a diverse mix of things that they’re involved with. This is just part of that mix, but it is also designed to have added benefits to Southampton. Just like their investments in a private firm producing scouting software.

Do you think fans are meant to be that smart though?
Tunnel vision on the most part, this is why I use this forum opposed to saints web.

I know for a fact the CB rumours are genuine and that we are at least interested in one. I am ITK on that. So Lincoln’s melt down about only signing kids and u15s is untrue.
