It is really hard to say whether or not a transfer window was good until you've actually finished the season.

If I recall, arguably our most criticised transfer window when we sold Lallana, Shaw, Clyne, Lovren and co turned out to be our best with Mane, Pelle, Tadic all surprising us with their talent.

Last season looked a decent window but we had higher hopes for Arma and annoyingly our best signing was a RB and we already had a class RB!

And Alderwiereld.

He done ok but let's remember he's our only left back specialist being kept out by a ****ing right back!
I think it’s more a case of not leaving KWP out. I still wouldn’t be surprised to see him leave - he’s been played out of position for a considerable amount of the season and I’m sure he would attract other PL clubs if dissatisfied.

His ability to play right or left won't have gone unnoticed at international level. I expect to see him and Tino in England shirts in future, whether they'll be playing for Saints is debateable.

Any CM/FM dork worth their salt knows that he’s been described as a LB or a RB for ages. It’s definitely not the first time he’s been played on the left and in the German-influenced counterpressing sides, fullbacks who cut inside and play centrally onto the opposite foot are “de stijl”. I doubt we’re about to lose him, especially as he’s going to be back on the right until Februaryish, regardless of what happens on the other flank!

Let’s hope so

Leverkeusen buying Adam Hlosek for €13m. Now that’s one I’d have liked us to take a punt on…
Transfermarkt give him a value of 19m euro with a contract until 2024 (which I think it kind of factors in(

My point being - no way does a premier league club get to sign him for that price. You see that kind of thing all the time. And sometimes it is even worse depending on the premier league club. I am sure I have seen players with a rumoured price in the range of 50m when linked to Man United who then move for closer to 20m

The latest rumour put a price of €25m in Broja. If we could and he wanted to come should we go to that ? I wonder what our upper limit for him is. He obviously had flashes of quality but was pretty poor for the entire run in

Apparently there are rumours that he was unhappy at saints in the second half of the season? Did anyone else see these or is this Saintsweb conspiracy theorists grasping at random Twitter comments ?

I saw loads of rumours throughout the season but never that one

Definitely yes, he will be a top player and we would surely profit on him in a few years. He has things in his locker that he does on the pitch that excite me and he's still learning. He could become another Shearer or even a James Beattie for us, I could see him scoring 15+ a season.

Prefer Sesko if we're raiding Salzburg, personally.

Guessing they're going to try to hold on to Sesko for a year, given that he's probably a year away from selling for at least Adeyemi/Aaronson money.

Salzburg is a great example of the rewards to be reaped based on a club's reputation. They spent, sure (though much less than they've received), but in so doing they established themselves as one of the premiere destinations for young talent. Haaland as an example turned down bigger moves in order to go there because he knew that he'd get the chance to showcase himself. The lineup you can put together of players Salzburg has sold is surreal:

GK: Gulacsi (Leipzig)
RB: Lazaro (Benfica)
CB: Caleta-Car (Marseille)
CB: Upamecano (Bayern)
LB: Bernardo (Salzburg; he came back)
CM: Mwepu (Brighton)
CM: Keita (Liverpool)
FW: Mane (Liverpool)
FW: Adeyemi (Dortmund)
FW: Haaland (Man City)

Plus: Szoboszlai (Leipzig), Aaronson (Leeds), Haidara (Leipzig), Daka (Leicester), Berisha (Reims), Lainer (Gladbach), Wolf (Swansea), Dabbur (Hoffenheim), Samassekou (Hoffenheim), Minamino (Liverpool), Hwang (Leipzig), Schlager (Wolfsburg), Hinteregger (Frankfurt), Kampl (Leipzig), Pongracic (Dortmund).

You could go pretty deep in CL with a squad consisting entirely of alumni from a club in a league that is generally adjudged to be worse than the English second division.

I've banged on about it over the years, but this is still a niche that no one has filled in the Premier League: the team that all of the bright young talents go to in order to show their stuff and get the big move to a top-tier team. We're well-positioned to be that; we have a reputation for using our Academy that is frankly a bit undeserved in recent years, and we have a handful of players that we brought in that have gone on to compete at the highest levels. It requires real courage, because you have to commit to playing youngsters (and also have to understand that many will leave as soon as they've demonstrated their quality), but there is a path to climb up the PL there, and sooner or later someone is going to have the guts to take it. Might as well be us.
