Really? Almost every Blackburn comment on Twitter is incredibly positive about Smallwood. He’s obviously one of those fans that proclaims how **** a player is once they are no longer attached to their club.

Funny how Smallwood had the nickname ‘King of Ewood’. I don’t imagine that kind of thing happens if you are genuinely ‘dog ****’.

Question still needs to be asked; why did he not make a single Championship appearance last season, including no appearances off the bench, and only make a couple of League Cup appearances and play a handful of Under23 games. Was there a lot of injury problems? If not, then what's the story?

Its safe to say if you make zero appearances in the league, you are not up to that level.

Could be a world beater at league 1 level.

We are still ****ed!

When you see it summarised like that - senior pro playing under 23s and non-entity cup games - then it screams ‘naughty step’ to me.

Categorically doesn’t mean he’s dog tod, but it might well mean he fell out with someone.

As we have had a few players who have fallen foul of the manager here over the years I think its fair to say that Mowbray and Smallwood.may well have had a little fall out at some stage .. a guy who performs well in a promotion year rarely loses that much form during pre season he only plays 2 games the following season. I'm hoping that his combative style raises the game of those around him .. and if he can actually pass to another team mate then its a 100% improvement on most of what we had last season.

Well we needed to add some steal and passion to the team and up to now seen to be doing so.last season the wimpy lot we had just caved in. League one is not for bottlers. I don't know how good any of the signings are and I would think most players we sign we won't have heard of or know much about. However It's surprising what some experience and leaders can bring out in others but a few needed yet. One thing McCann wants to think about is that when we played a decent league one club in Rotherham that until he brought Bowen and Grosciki on we were second best to a league one club not just every championship club we played in the second half of the season.
True about Bowen and Grosicki, and Rotherham (Like us) weren't playing their first team. Having said that, Tom Eaves looked great against a league One defence. I remain convinced that if we play to his strengths he'll score goals at this level. Unfortunately we probably won't play to his strengths.

There’s probably two parts to this. He was suspended and lost his place in midfield to Travis who came through the academy. I do also think there’s an element of the naughty step. I don’t see how a player that played 50 odd consecutive games then gets dropped and never used again except for the Carabao cup.

When you see all the comments from Blackburn Rovers fans, you see how well respected he is. It speaks volumes on the player we have signed.

He played 32 league games in the Championship the season before & over 100 games for Rotherham in the Championship as well as Middlesbrough when he first started out. Probably a L1 player, but might also be able to play in a team like ours last season & maybe save someone.

I disagree. We definitely do target injury prone players, because they come cheap. If you're always on the physios table, you'll take anything you can get.
99%* of players get injured.... So define "injury prone"....

*88% of statistics used in an argument, are made up on the spot....

I looked this up not that long ago, something like three quarters of the players that LD has signed have had at least one very bad injury.

We're not necessarily talking about players who miss a few weeks every now and again, we're talking players who have missed nearly all of or entire seasons because of serious injuries. That significantly lowers their value and makes them cheap.
