Some of us are probably wondering if not selling Grosicki and Bowen, along with appointing McCann and paying compo to get him, might be significant?

Appointing a League One gaffer from a much smaller club was never going to cost them a lot of money (in footballing terms anyway). If somebody bids for Grosicki and Bowen and it matches the asking price, they'll be gone.

Ambition would be coming out and saying "our players are going nowhere, we're pushing for promotion."

They won't say that, because a) our players will be going if there's a bid and b) we're not pushing for promotion.

From Doncaster Free Press:

Doncaster Rovers: Latest on speculation over Ben Whiteman's future

Doncaster Rovers rebuffed an initial enquiry from Hull City about the availability of captain Ben Whiteman, the Free Press understands.

Ben Whiteman
Former Rovers boss Grant McCann is keen to take the 23-year-old to the KCOM Stadium this summer as he looks to boost his midfield with Markus Henriksen expected to depart before the closing of the transfer window.

Hull are understood to have contacted Rovers last week to enquire if Whiteman is available for purchase this summer.

But with Rovers seeing Whiteman as central to plans for the future, they informed Hull they would not be willing to sell at this time.

Whiteman – who is under contract until the summer of 2021 – was named team captain by new Rovers boss Darren Moore last week and turned in an excellent performance in the opening day draw with Gillingham.

The Tigers have seen their coffers boosted by Harry Maguire’s record move from Leicester City to Manchester United, with Hull expected to receive more than £9million as part of a sell-on fee.

They last week completed the signing of Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman for £400,000.

As he looks for further midfield options, McCann is understood to be considering a move for another of his former players, Leonardo da Silva Lopes of Wigan Athletic, who he worked with at Peterborough United.

Lopes has struggled to break in at Wigan after joining them from Peterborough last summer, making just three appearances.

McCann has also spoken of his desire to secure a loan move for Liverpool’s Herbie Kane, who he worked with at Rovers last season.

Sort of see the viewpoint, but a different take on it .......

So far, 12 out, 6 in of which 1 sent straight out, so effectively 5 in.
... from a squad that was already lacking, and with at least 1 (MH), maybe more, still likely to go before the end of August.

No Bowen sale = no new owners. Of course, no guarantee that a Bowen sale brings new owners but it surely increases the probability significantly (c. £20 mill debt v's c. £40 mill post Harry sale).

Even with Bowen (and Grosicki) we will likely be around mid-table at best. So we face the prospect of a nothing season with the ****s still as owners.

Sorry to say, but I think I'd rather see him sold (for around £20 mill) in the hope we get new owners.
And unless we make a handful of quality signings in the next couple of days, which looks doubtful but let's see, then I don't see how anyone can be happy with this window (including GMcC if he's honest).

Then again, could have been worse for sure.

Of course, maybe better to wait until Friday morning and see how things pan out, but it's a message board which would be pretty boring if we all just waited until after events before sharing our thoughts, opinions and feelings (like let's wait until the season is over before we say 'owt!!).
Don't get me wrong , it's still a poor window but I was expecting an abysmal one . And while Bowen and Grosicki are still around we have a chance in any match at this level as shown last year at Bellend Road , and even tho won't be enough for top
6 , they should keep us out the bottom 6 . Id take 20m if it would be reinvested , but would take satisfaction if the greedy ****ers didn't get their mits on it . It really highlights the mess of supporting this club at the moment that I would rather lose a star player for free next year then get 20 million pounds

Bowen has got another 2 years to go on his contract I think.

Keane Lewis Potter according to the HDM could be made available on loan along with a few others. Ritson/Greaves/Fleming etc

Letting KLP go out would leave us very light up front.

Wayne Rooney joins Derby County on an 18-month deal as a player-coach - starting in January

Hell of a signing.
Extract from BBC report.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/49243606
Rams chairman Mel Morris insisted the England legend would "first and foremost" be joining the club as a player.

"To have Wayne Rooney as a player, and equally as an aspiring coach, is incredible and I can only imagine the buzz this will generate amongst our supporters," he said.

If Bowen and Grosicki don’t go now they will be
I think Ferdinand is a top bloke. He came across really well in the documentaries following the sad loss of his wife. How he’d turn up to local widower events. He’s got a sharp sense of humour <laugh>
hes also got great agility in sneaking out of bog windows while still rammed with last nights coke.
