I take your point but I think the club will already be thinking way ahead of this.

Events during the season will alter the club's thinking and the net result will change accordingly.

The six points we've gained will have, imo, already made a difference in the projections at the club.

If, for example, we're on course for 17th/18th will we spend big in January or settle for scraping into 4th bottom ...

... personally, after what we've just seen in this window, I think we'll spend again.

Trudging along in 18th place, all season, may drastically alter the planning whereby we may think it's better to accept going down and try again.

That's just off the top of my head but my point is that being fixated on this '17th place' won't be the same for the club as it is for the supporters.

17th definitely a success for me.

True we have spent money, but we were a long way behind Leeds and Burnley, and come to that Ipswich, who spent £130m last summer and sold no one.

The gap between the leagues is gigantic. Bigger every year and it won't be getting smaller.

To get the value we have got, We've had to risk losing a few lads for a while during AFCON. We'll see, we've been very competitive against two PL sides and we should get better.

IBut I'd take 17th no bother. If we manage that, we will be a different prospect after it.

Too early to say,I’d take 17th all day, before the season started i thought it would be daunting and very difficult for us, starting to think with the games I’ve witnessed live and on tv have I over estimated the quality of some of the leagues bottom half, hope so, the test will start ramping up now but I believe we have the physicality and nouse to at least compete now

If that's ironing, cleaning and making the bed I think you're aiming a bit low if you don't mind me saying mate ...

... I insist on putting the bins out, handling the BBQ and carrying all the shopping from the car in one go!

To me there’s about 8 teams fighting for a European spot, 6 teams fighting against relegation spots and 6 teams who know they’ll probably be finishing mid table. The minimum to me is finishing 17th, success would be finishing top of the bottom 6 and giving us a platform to build on.

totally agree, and we have the signings to do a top six or a strong foothold for next season just need a bit more time to gel, not looking forward to the absentees for the African nations but hey ho

Best part of this season is that unlike the Ipswich signing last season, no one knows just how good these players could be in this league.

Ideally NUFC will struggle and finish one place below us

Realistically Howe will have them playing hoofball to survive comfortably

I am certain we'll avoid relegation with so many quality signings.

As to where we'll end up, anywhere from 9th to 16th I reckon

against Brentford, we were superb an established prem team, we looked strong and confident can't wait for it to click better and love what i saw of our new forward on the clips Mr brobby I fancy putting this up when he scores another header he's strong determined and won’t be knocked off the ball just what we need

    staying in the premier league...

obviously 17th or higher, but as we all saw last season, there are always plenty of 'strange results' and within the three mini leagues i feel we can make the middle one.

mini leagues = 6 battling for title/europe, 8 with a chance to grab a euro slot/too good to go down (in theory) 6 battling each other to survive.

I'd say KLD has gambled somewhat with spending all this money on the players he has.

Not too many will be sticking around if we go down and that will mean a rebuild which can be uncertain.

I'd say 17th is the bare minimum and getting up to 13th/14th would be a very encouraging success.

We could easily be Forest 2.0 of course.

We’ve just gotta wait and see how it all blends together.

Totally get that some fans are very enthusiastic after our great transfer window (me too), I feel like a huge part of our success this season is going to be the atmosphere at the SOL, that feeling of being up against it and getting points against the odds, my worry with the growing enthusiasm is that stealing a win against the likes of Brentford goes from incredible scenes of joy to simply an expectation - something that we're expected to do and therefore not something to get too excited about because that could suck some of that incredible atmosphere out of the stadium.

For that reason Im sticking with 17th being an unreal achievement worthy of huge celebration. If we manage to get 17th on the last day, beers will be drank, faces will be punched and the party will go on for weeks.

Before the season started I had confidence that Kyril would have a bloody good plan for S.A.F.C. survival in the Premier League, and I expected/hoped to finish around 12th, but what he's done during the 'window' has made me change my opinion/forecast and I now expect/hope to finish in the top half.

That might sound optimistic (or even mental), and I mentioned this to a few people at the time, but I'd now be disappointed to finish in the bottom half with all of the other 'also-rans' :emoticon-0148-yes:

I also mentioned this to a few people in the last couple of weeks, and I've now mentioned it to quite a few <whistle>
