So you're saying ok to abuse a player on the field because of the colour of his skin?
No I'm not sure where you've got that from to be honest? But banning them for the rest of the season is just unacceptable to me and absolutely ridiculous. Would you say the same if someone breaks someone leg with a bad tackle? No even though out on the street that would be assault. It all has to be consdered in the context of sport. Things will be said like it or not, and particularly when you are bringing together people from all different walks of life from all over the world.
As I say I think we suffer from extreme arrogance in this country too. We get all moral and mighty, believing everything we do in this country is the correct way. The bottom line is in South America and other parts of the world, what Suarez said is not considered racist at all. By both those saying it, and those receiving it. I prefer our way but there are difference everywhere. But in this country we decide that the way we view racism should be the way the rest of the world think, or they are racist. Its just laughable to me.
As I say I believe sanctions are necessary but until the clubs and FA educate the players coming into the country on the cultural differences, then this will happen again. Sanctioning players might send out a message but it won't eradicate the problem.

I just wonder how your arguement that it's acceptable to abuse people because of the colour of their skin in such & such a country so it should ok here too holds up during the World Cup where various groups have already said they intend to target non white players and fans?
And if clubs would be a lot more likely to "educate" their players if they run the risk of spending millions on a player only for that player to miss most of the season because they felt the need to abuse another human being over the colour of their skin. If these players want to play in the English league and be paid by English clubs they should abide by our morals and standards.
He mentioned Evra's colour in a derogatory context... And he's admitted he said it! I don't care what country you're from - that's racist! He wasn't saying it in a friendly way, was he?! So the "it's not racist in Uruguay" argument doesn't hold true. Mentioning colour of skin in a negative way is racist - full stop, regardless of what word you use.
Let's face it if someone can get a three match ban for a mistimed tackle (e.g gosling vs Norwich), then why is 8 games too much for something that needs to be completely stamped out of sport?

I'm all for banning a player like roy keane when they purposefully injure a player in retaliation for as long as the player is injured for. But 8 games for an non-football incident feels excessive to me. 4 games would have been enough, max 6. How much did Ben Thatcher get for his elbow check? 6?
I tell you why, cause it's chit-chat, tackles can injure people, roy keane's kick ended a career, ben thatcher could have killed Pedro Mendes. And it was city who banned him not the FA. Banning a player for 25% of the season for making a comment is too much, compared to how toothless the FA has been in the past.
This stamping out racism out of football, that's a sepp blatter catchphrase. Racism exists. It's human behaviour. Footballers, fans etc are humans, football cannot stamp out racism. Take a step back and think about it. They don't want any racism on football pitches. Fair enough. A noble idealistic idea. But for the foreseable future there will be racism, at least from the spectators. Do they ban the russian teams from competitions for their fans making monkey noises? no. They fine them.
From what i see Terry's comments were far more severe. And he's actually the england captain so the FA ought to be looking at that situation even with more scrutiny than the incident between two foreign players.

That argument is completely invalid. When a player goes onto the pitch they understand they are at risk of injury and it's all part and parcel of the job. They shouldn't, on the other hand, expect to be the victim of racial abuse and be expected to just get on with it because it's 'in the context of sport'.

Agree with this, from what I have gathered from the reports, it was said numerous times as an aggressive ploy to wind up Evra. Ten times in a conversation? How could that possibly be friendly?

Sorry but deliberately breaking someones leg is not being at the risk of injury. Its the laws of the games into your own hands. The game also has laws on racism, and what is acceptable in this country. Suarez has contravened those laws, through a lack of understanding of our culture as much as anything else.
I whatever country it's racist!!! It's the definition of racism. Whatever the WORD whether acceptable or not doesn't matter, if you're using his colour to imply he's in some way inferior that's racist.
"black" isn't a racist word over here, but if you use it as a derogatory term, it's racist. So same goes for the word he used.
Sorry you're wrong and showing a total lack of understanding of different cultures around the world. Its racist to me and you because we live in England. This is common place in South America. They use the colour of skin to talk to each other in a derogatory phrase. Black people and white are not offended by it.
But he's not in Uruguay. He's being paid by an English club and in the English league he needs to abide by English morals and standards (by that I don't mean we're so great and moral but our FA have a set of laws which need to be adhered to). Ignorance is no defence.

How's this arguement going to work when the World Cup is held in Russia & Ukraine where racist groups have already claimed they will target non white players and fans? Will that be alright because it's in Russia and that's what they do there?
In the last 15 years how many examples of someone deliberately breaking someones leg can you think of? The only one that comes to my mind is Roy Keane on Alf-Inge Haaland, so again your argument is invalid.
Also, the 'lack of understanding our culture' argument is just absolutely ridiculous, especially considering he was at Ajax for 3 years previous to joining Liverpool. There is absolutely no way he couldn't have known what he said was racist.
He's not in South America. Also, just because black and white people in South America aren't offended by it doesn't mean they won't be offended in England.
Exactly, racism is racism. In England, whatever company you work for, you are told it is unaccptable, and should be told what is and isn't racist for those who aren't sure what's acceptable (e.g. those from different cultures).
