Fans of other clubs (Chavski) mostly, but the a large majority of people in this board too had pretty much accepted that if 40mill was bid, he'd be off - following bollocks reports in the papers and the ITK source of RHC (who is also from the press). 40mill just allows Luis to officially negotiate terms with the other club (even though they do anyway), but the two clubs would still need to agree on a price. If he goes for 40, it's because we value him at 40, not because we have to sell at that price. Given recent interviews from Rodgers or Ayre, it would seem we value him considerably higher.

Not so much that people didn't stop and agree the clause didn't exist, but that they sided with the easy choice. I'm sure I could find plenty of quotes if I could be arsed.

Despite all the ****e I speak regularly, occasionally I write some stuff of value. Very occasionally...

I think most comments were more along the lines of 'if it does exist' whether than 'it does'. I don't take anything I read on here or in the papers as gospel <ok>

Nope
There are probably/certainly other threads for these snippets, but I thought I'd keep it in one place, unless you mods want to split it up and put it in the others. This is all from my mate who has just phoned me. Points will be numbered a la MITO.

1. Suarez wanting to leave has nothing to do with the rags. It's because we haven't got CL. In an interview in the Times a bit back, he said he doesn't read the papers here as he can't really understand them, but 'the lads' told him he was now getting a reasonable press (pre-biting). The quote was his own words, not his agent's. He wants Real and they will come for him.

2. He has a release clause of 40 million and Real will know this. So we are unlikely to get any more.
Ahem...

Why are you all so hung-up about any clause in Suarez's contract? The value quoted is NOT the real issue. The real issue is what obligations do LFC have should any club offer the full monetary value. Now it would be an unfair contract term should LFC be forced to accept that figure just as it would be unfair to Suarez should LFC refuse to consider any bid. I strongly doubt that Suarez has the means to challenge seriously LFC's interpretation of the so called release cluse.

You've just explained exactly WHY people are/were hung up about the clause <doh>

If there is one (which there isn't) we're forced to accept a bid of that value, regardless of if we want to sell or what his value to us is.
If there isn't (and there isn't) we can demand whatever we want and keep Suarez under his contract.

Our only obligation, as such, is to do what's best for us - which is to keep Suarez as an LFC player unless a club makes an absurd bid for him. Clauses change where the power lies. All the power in this situation is with Liverpool and not with the player. As it should be.
Well, his reporter mate's source is BR and Ayre...

Sure he said there wasn't a clause too
And no one found it odd that BR would run his mouth about a 40mill release clause to the press, but then tell them to keep it quiet? The shark must have been absolutely ****ered or playing games to let that info out.

It's only the inane and/or inept who would need to make that comment!

Or trying to catch a leek out <ok>

Clause or no clause makes no difference, you need somebody to be interested first before any transfer can be speculated on.
