JH did say no about Torres but he'd only just arrived in football and didn't know much better. He's been here for three years now and he also knows that we need to make a stance, if he backs down both he and the club stand to lose a hell of a lot of face and respect.

I could answer this in 2 ways, so i will.

1. He's a typical dumb american (we have one too), does a lot of posturing, but any serious force, and he'll cave in.
2. He is first and foremost a businessman, and businessmen live for the bottom line. If you think he cares about your club, you're mistaken, to him, you're just an extension of his business empire. If we seriously bid £49 million, he'd probably accept, because it helps towards the bottom line, and you're not doing too badly without Suarez (yet)

Look it's got nothing to do with you so just run along, jog on whatever...

Arsenal are not having him and that's certain. So you can stick your £49 million. If JH does decide to accept an offer from abroad then he's going to have to explain his logic to us -not you.

You should be spending more of your time questioning your own Board as to why they continually cock-up their transfer window strategy.

Stay on topic

Sorry, but you know just as much as we do what he is thinking. You have no proof this is correct, therefor cannot use it to form part of your argument. Unless you have proof od a direct quote to back this up, could quite easily turn around and say the exact opposite to you.

He does care about the club and doesn't see this as just an extension to his business empire. Prove me wrong...

Buying Carroll, Downing and Adam for a combined £63m and then selling them for a total of £27m suggests he's not a typical American businessman <ok>

You don't know what John Henry is like. It's only ****** who deal in stupid stereotypes.

Because JH has a history of successful business deals, he's only too aware that a mere £49 million today pales into insignificance when he is building an asset in the hundreds of millions.

Never mind yet more god awful generalisations.

you think America was built on "bottom line" and "we'll posture a bit then cave in"?

i Think you're confusing the Americans with the French old boy!

You thought the same about Hicks and Gillette, look how that turned out. He'll get bored soon if you don't progress, and you'll be back to square 1.

Whilst we're totally useless at everything (except finishing above you), we're largely self-sufficient, Kroenke could **** off, and we'd be fine, he doesn't contribute anything to the club, he's just a suit in a board meeting.

Think you missed his point rather spectacularly there.

Your first point is wrong. H&G took over when we were challenging and in the CL. We were buying established players and when things got bad, they then nearly bankrupt the club. Difference with FSG is that we're not spending hundreds of millions (that summer was the exception) and they have a model of buying younger players with a view to building for the future. JWH isn't stupid enough to want us to buy young players for the future and if w aren't challenging in 2 years time get bored and disappear.

He's sensible enough to know that FFP needs to come in and then we will be able to challenge, for him to **** off before that comes in would be a huge waste of time for him.

That as well <laugh>

So in a way, he's basically Arsene Wenger (the whole banking on FFP to bring balance, focusing on youth), yet whilst you choose to mock Wenger's approach, when Henry does it (or rips it off), it's okay?

I forgot, it's impossible to have a logical debate about Liverpool. Hypocrites

The difference is, you guys have CL football and the stadium so must be able to afford more than us. On top of that, your club has said there is plenty of money to spend for numerous years but never seem to spend any of it. This summer we have been lead to believe there is anywhere between £80m and £120m to spend yet the only incoming transfer has been a free with just three days (technically two now considering the time) until the season starts!

Anyway, I'm away. Night all <smooch>

PS...play nice!

What he said <ok>

P.S rep :bandit:

edit: I can't rep you apparently. Already given my rep virginity out <whistle>

It's impossible to debate with such a closed mind as yours.

John Henry is not Wenger. Firstly he owns the club and is not an employee. Secondly he does not make a fool of himself by continuing to bis for a player who he has been expressly told is not for sale to his club.

Andy Carroll. I remember Newcastle saying he wasn't for sale, you ended up buying him.

Start then, you never know. :)

Seriously though, if you'd been on our board up until the Suarez debate erupted you'd find that most LFC fans admired Arsenal and the way they've gone about things.
In principle, I'd much rather you won the league than any of those above you but I can't see it happening any time soon.
Unfortunately, the Suarez thing brought a lot of wums to our board shouting the odds so we got a bit defensive.
