OMG. Right that's it lads Tilson is now the favourite with he bookies. Search over. It's not like there hasn't been several favourites that are evens or odds on favourite in the last 2 months is it.
This is because of that article in the Thurrock paper yesterday. As everyone says the bookies know no more than us.The only one who has got any idea who it will be is Scally, and if he knew he wouldn't be bothered with any more interviews.
exactly geminiswift, as you say, skybet is not exactly bible is it....take with a pinch of salt ! more to do with a select few talking tilson up
If we don't get Lee Clark which is frankly Scallys first choice, I would expect Tilson to signed up early next week.
to be honest not be negative but it will be a bit of a 'he will do appointment'. Its obvious we've missed out on numerous mangers (lee clarke, mickey adams etc) and Mr. Scally will just give it to Tilson because he needs someone in soon and he will be cheap and desperate for the job. Not to say that I don't want Tilson and I actually think he could do a good job but he's not exactly the most eye catching of appointment.
So we travel the world in search of a new manager. We take months to make a decision. Lots of interesting applications coming in daily. People on holidays. We will not be rushed. It feels like a global search for the right man for the job in the year of our centenary and our 10 year ambition. After much speculation and huge build up to the eventful day. My weird psychotic sense of humour is starting to get the better of me but I can sense it, I really can sense it from the fans speculation...an Essex moment! Please No, please someone tell me this is not going to happen and the not606 members are just winding me up
Why not Tilson? Still dont get the negativity? UEFA Pro Licence coach since 2006, Scott Lindsey is an 'A' licence coach who when Technical development coach at Gillingham before he went to Lincoln City helped set up the 7 development centres for Gillingham Football Club through Kent! With the right team they will take them places, that team is Gillingham.
basically GFC0000 tilson or allen are not what gillingham fc need, just don't think steve tilson is up to the task, we need to be a stronger organised team, with a manager and staff who can bring in the right calibre of players now and for the future...he's not a longterm option all said and done ! and regards the last part of your comment, doesn't that apply to any manager who has the right players at his disposal...with the right team any manager would achive what they wish and thats the difference and thats why tilson and co are not the answer !!!
Loads of coaching qualifications........ http://www.tillyandgreavsiefootballacademy.co.uk/steve-tilson/
Don't have anything against him personally (apart from the "talent" he saw in Nutter, Sinclair and Gowling to take them to Lincoln). But like Oxo said, I don't think he is the right man for the job. Our goal is to get promoted automatically or via the playoffs at the very least and I can't see it happening with him in charge and it will only put us in the same situation in a year or two's time. He did a Pulis/Taylor on Southend but he had a shocking time at Lincoln to tell you the truth with the team shipping goals in 44 of the 51 games that he was there. That doesn't suggest that he will bring a tighter, more organised strategy which the team is desperately crying out for. We need someone who knows how to get us out of this League by being tight defensively and scoring goals as showed in 08/09. Tilson is not the solution!
Saying he's a ufea a coaching licence means nothing. Hes hes qualified to be a good coach but not a good manager by right. Nicky Southall is a UFEA A coach that doesnt mean he should be manager!
There is a saying in football that you are only as good as your last game, but there is also the saying that you don't become a bad manager over night. Both these are relevent to Tilson... There is no doubt he was a success at Southend taking them up from L2 to the championship, proving, at least to me, that he can be a very capable manager at this level. However he wasn't great at Lincoln but there were siginificant financial restriction on him there. To be fair you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear and the following Lincoln manager didn't do too well himself, which I think is a good benchmark for anyone. The main question I have is to those who don't want Tilson is why? I haven't seen anyone give any reasoned arguement against him, apart from his time at Lincoln. Is that all? Career stats of ~40% win rate show he is capable surely?
