Happier times - a great picture of the team with Stan looking his usual light-hearted self amongst some sartorially questionable outfits. TV looks like he's auditioning for the job of the Kray Twins minder...
One of the quotes about Stan I like: "Stan shared a flat with team-mate Don Shanks, briefly until the money went to the dogs, literally, at London’s greyhound tracks. Finally, when the landlord came knocking at the door, Bowles asked what he wanted. ‘I’ve come looking for the rent,’ came the reply. ‘Well come on in,’ said Stan, ‘and we can look for it together.’ Supremely gifted rascal. Always loyal to QPR. Wishing you all the best, Stan
I know it's a cliche but imagine what Stan would be worth in today's transfer market. ''Stanley's too good for you, Stanley's too good for you''
There are no “Stan Bowles” players anymore. His type are missing from football these days. Skill, talent in abundance, jaw-dropping, fun, fans favourite, loveable rogue, cheeky, mixed with the fans, someone who lived his life (hopefully with few regrets). I will always treasure my memories of watching Stan in our hoops, including his brief England appearance. I’m certain he frustrated managers, but he enlightened my football days and had me travelling the country to watch my team and awaiting his dazzling talents, his cheekiness and his goals/assists.
Death is a fact of life ladies and gentlemen and none of us know our number . Anyones passing is sad but remember this. "Tis better to have spent one day in the sunshine than a lifetime in the shade" Our Stan had more than his share of days in the sunshine!
well when ever i need to look at the genius of stan i push the you tube button and look for qpr v arsenal away the score was 2-2 there you can see stans amazing dribbling skills,if you asked me who was better marshj or stan i would have to say i would have to go for marsh because when he played for qpr there were not that many trully great players in the same team so marsh stood out as a sensation where as of course bowles played along side qpr greats gerry francis, dave thomas, don masson, don givens, making bowles more of a team player where as rodney was all on his own often being marked by four players and still not being able to stop him ,but like all of you if stan dies i will cry my eyes out there will never be another stan god bless you stan love you forever
