Quite a good way to set out the squad One improvement would be to list them in order of preference for playing
It's also light up top. I don't have a huge problem with any of the three fit strikers, but between them I'm concerned they don't have the same quality as other sides in this division.
How many of our central midfielders can also play out wide? Once Stewart is back we will have 7 players competing for 2/3 positions. Are any of them likely to be used elsewhere otherwise we will be using youngsters as cover for other positions with 5 decent/experienced midfielders not starting. Sent from my NEM-L51 using Tapatalk
I tried putting my version of the squad in a spreadsheet but it didn't copy across well Yes, the midfield is difficult to list by preference as it depends on the type of player combinations you want there's only Meyler in central midfield that we know what we will be getting even the other well known players will be dependent on how they fit in with us at least we have cover for injuries in midfield
Toral and Larsson certainly have, I'm not so sure the other two have, Henriksen certainly didn't look comfortable there when he's played there for us.
Toral and Evandro can play out wide, Larsson used to but is too old and Irvine has played wide for Burton a couple of times, but often cuts in and becomes a number 10. Henriksen has played there for us but wasn't great at being a wide man. Suppose as cover they're alright but really they're all central players.
I would like to see Dicko and Campbell playing together Campbell could play the "Windass" to Dicko's "Campbell"
after our relegation and fire sale followed by an attempt to rebuild I suppose we have to accept a low quality squad but we have very few stand out players
If we're playing 3 at the back then most of our midfielders aren't suited to being wing backs. Larsson could cover RWB, but at LWB we've still only got Clark. The other midfielders like Irvine/Evandro etc. could fit into the front 3 in free roles though.
A lot rests on Slutsky and Pennock getting the best from what is available even more so than with previous managers
Leo will play a system that suits the players, not try to shoe horn players into positions they are not comfortable with. Unless injury dictates otherwise.
I'd play with 11 right footed players all playing down the right wing. Anything to left will leave them open to criticism
To get the best out of Grosicki and Bowen you need wing backs behind them, they don't track back enough for a 4-5-1 or 4-3-3
I agree, both Kingsley and Aina are also suited to wing backs rather than full backs, the problem is if either of those are out, Lenihan is not a wing back, and Clark is able to play there but not ideally suited.
We're also a bit light on the wings. Given our usual predicament when we get an injury, it's normally a horrible one. A striker, winger and a full back like Rosenior who could play either side short of a better than expected window. For Carmine probably another keeper or two short as well!
