I guess they need all the help they can get if he's any good, plus didn't Campbell invent racist abuse from Sunderland fans? He probably wouldn't be keen on dealing with a team he's got an imaginary feud with, if he's got any say on transfers.

The lad is from Basildon and is only 18. He's playing for the closest league club to his home town so its maybe a case that he's happy where he is.

    Yeh maybe
But a move to a bigger club and infact spurs
I’m surprised the blocked him from his improvement
However we don’t know all the circumstances

I think it more likely south end know how much he is worth and the offers were derisory so rejected in the hope that bigger bids are forthcoming later.
To think that an 18 yo would willingly pass over (what would be just a commute to )spurs because he is happy to stay close to home is fanciful at best. I would say his agent has been in his ear as well.
This notion that players want to stay at hometown clubs until THEY believe they are ready is something out of a 1950's comic.

Ooh, I dunno. At the times he'd be travelling, it would take him at least an hour and half to get from Basildon to Spurs' training ground in Enfield. He'd have to go along the A127, get on the M25, follow it round until the A10 and then drop down into Enfield. And that's if the M25 is all ok. One little problem and he could be stuck for hours. Plus, Enfield is a nightmare to get through. No, he's much better off staying at Southend. Even in the worst traffic, it would only take him half an hour at most on the A127 going east. And then he also has the option of dropping down through Pitsea and picking up the A13 and going the back way through Leigh-on-Sea.

Players apparently do turn down London.

Apparently Maddison didn’t want to go to Charlton ‘cos he hates traffic’ and ended up at Hull.

We may have dodged a bullet there <laugh>

I read about that and thought the same thing, he sounds like a tit. I think one of our recruitment guys said they weren't looking at him because of his bad attitude (combined with the fee) you only have to look at McGeady to see what effect a talented arsehole can have on team spirit.

Exactly. Just because he is a Sunderland fan does not mean he isn't a complete knob. Just look at some folk on here! <whistle>

I live in Herts currently. My wife is from Basildon and we spend a lot of time there still. Are you round there then?

Not far from Bas Vegas - in Benfleet. Quite a trek with the young un to the SoL, but we're both SC holders and head up whenever we can.

That is quite a trek! Don't get up to the SoL that often. Usually have to spend time visiting family when we are back in the NE. Try to get to as many away games as possible though. I watch quite a lot of Essex non-league though. Going to Canvey v Heybridge on Saturday.

Not been to Concord, I have to admit. Keep meaning to get round to going. We have family links to it all and that tends to dictate who we watch, but we're between clubs at the moment so just watching the interesting local games. Romford are quite a laugh at the minute!

Romford is quite interesting. Sacked their manager (who's a genuinely good bloke) of 15 years and since then have plummeted. Tamplin looks like he's going to spend money though, so if he can overcome his own vanity they could get up the division. Is he still managing them?

I've heard plenty of people say that Magic is a good bloke but I've never met him. Tamplin is still managing them. It's all a bit mad over there. But they've won today so he'll be happy. I still think he really needs to appoint a proper manager. Have you been at Concord's FA Trophy game? 4-4 at Canvey. Not the greatest game though.
