Really don't know what you see in Rose to give you the belief that he is or will be better than Ekotto. He's an awful player. There's a reason he looked ok in a very poor Sunderland side, that's his level. Not a team with aspirations of a top 4-6 finish.
Because Ekotto isn't good, may be he was once, but he is to old to improve now,Rose has time to,with the right training
I've got to say that I've never understood why some on here seem to idolize Benny. He had a couple of good seasons, but even in those he made some real howlers in defence. And I know that some people think that his "attitude" is a "breath of fresh air," but it's not. It stinks.
Levys next move needs to be the unveiling of a coach/manager that helps the club get back on track. This needs to be done pronto. - Even if the manager doesn't begin working with us until the summer. An announcement could do everyone the world of good. There's been some horrendous footballing decisions made recently, which has seen us just plod along, whilst blowing £100m. Some may say we've gone backwards. - whatever, that's a different discussion. Levy has got to pull something out of the bag NOW, for us to stand any chance of keeping our "best" players. We can't afford to lose the likes of Sandro, Lloris, Vetonghen etc. We have to prevent it resulting in transfer requests. Whilst some might have odd moan about Lloris and his distribution, or Vertonghen's performances, we simply cannot have the spine of our team ripped out, resulting in even more new blood joining the club. This season has proven how difficult it is to integrate so many new players, and it's been made worse by the fact we've sacked our manager with no plan in place. it's been a total and utter mess. Levy is the only one with the power to sort this **** out, whether he's the right person or not! (another discussion altogether). As others have said, these players could well be looking for the exit door and we've got to do all we can to keep them, just like Liverpool did with Suarez. If we can sign a new manager NOW, ready for next season, this might help us retain these players. In addition, it might also take the pressure off, as the players will know what the plan is going forward. Also the fans might not be quite so tense, which can't be good for the players right now. Going back to the individual players themselves though, any team is always going to consist of "squad players". - The one's who are on the fringe, but do a job when needed. The problem we've got, is some of the squad players aren't good enough for a club that want a top 4 finish. Yet they feature so regularly and don't do the job required. I always ask myself if a certain player would get into the match day squad of one of our rivals. We have quite a few that wouldn't. - and these players are playing far too regularly. Naughton. - Feel a bit sorry for him as he's usually out of position. But regardless, he's 1 man out of 11 who takes up a place on the pitch. He's not playing well enough, whether its his fault or not. Dawson. - Hate to say it as he's been one of my favourite players for years, but he's been shocking for most of this season. Bentaleb - Young, shouldn't be playing as much as he is. We've got no reason to be experimenting with this kid so much, especially with so much at stake. He should have been integrated slower. As a result, it's another new midfielder that the team are having to get used to on match day, when it's been hard enough this season already, due to so many new faces. Rose - just not good enough to play LB for a club who want to finish top 4. (Townsend has just about escaped my rant, as he is a good enough squad player, even if he is incredibly infuriating.) Then there's... Sigurdsson At least he's not been in the squad much recently. He'll definitely be off in the summer. Done very little since joining. Fryers - seriously, is this kid ever going to play? if not, why have we still got him? We've got too much quantity, and not enough quality cover. These players are all mid table players, with the exception of Bentaleb who we don't know enough about yet. - But he still wouldn't make it into the squad of any of our rivals. I'm not saying we should have a squad that is full of world class stars. That's never going to happen. But we're at the other end of the spectrum and have too many that aren't up to par. It's very unfortunate that our new signings have offered us very little in their first season, but regardless, it shows just how average our back up players also are. We're 5th mainly because of 2 people. Lloris and Adebayor. - and god help us if Ade decides to have a sulk, which is inevitable. The more I think about it, the more it amazes me how we're in 5th place.
Naughton, Dawson and Friedel need replacing for better players and younger in Brad`s case. Obviously (to us fans at least) we need an established quality LB that can also school Rose, (there is a good player in there somewhere) he is young enough to improve and should not be totally written off just yet. Michael `cement boots` Dawson should not be our captain, he creates panic throughout the entire team with his nervous ponderous play and although his attitude, effort and commitment can not be faulted, he is sadly not good enough for a top four team. I would say we need 2 new centre backs as Kaboul is now a walking injury and a RB and LB, Naughton is not good enough back up for Walker and Rose has no back up apart from Fryers who is too raw still.
Why was Eriksen left on the bench? Why was the headless chicken brought on and when the hell are Lamela and Sandro going to be fit? We need them to play as many of the remaining games as possible as they are our only real hope of getting into CL
Why did we play with only one up front against Norwich? Why didn't Sherwoodie believe that we could score against them, in that first half? It's almost like he changed things, not because it was something he had properly considered, but because he wanted to do something different! Utterly incompetent!
"It's the first major setback I've had and we're going to need to be spirited to show we can bounce back." So defeats to Arsenal and West Ham in cups aren't setbacks? Get TS out asap.
With views like that it's not really very surpising that you don't understand those of us who do appreciate Benny compared to whom Rose is a very mundane player.
That's the trouble with a lot of supporters, how many of the other top6 teams would Benny get in-none,ok Rose would on recent performances ,but before his injury he was one of the best players in the side, and like i keep saying, time is on his side to improve, and he can, can't say the same for Benny
He should be walking into Spurs team for starters, and 29 from my perspective is nappies. Defenders are often at their best at 30 - 32.
Nah,rubbish,Cole is 32-33 and he is starting to slow down now,and Benny has never been fast players with pace will just fly past him,
If we can't play in Europe midweek and then Premier League on the weekend then what the Hell are we doing trying to qualify for the CL. We have a big enough squad to make chages here and there regardless of injuries and if the manager can't make that work then it's his fault.
What is it about the EL that causes our domestic campaign to suffer? I agree that playing twice a week is no different to the CL, apart from fact that one could argue the EL matches are generally a bit further to travel. - does it make that much difference? Is it really down to Thursdays and Sundays, as opposed to wednesdays and Saturdays? It just sounds like a poor excuses to me. However, there's something about the EL which causes a problem. Both us and Swansea have sacked their managers, whilst Liverpool who aren't in it this season, are absolutely flying. I can't remember the last team who were in it that achieved their domestic goals, whilst competing in the EL.
Absolutely. If we can't cope with the additional burden of the E.L. then we have no hope in the C.L....
