It could be surprisingly difficult to secure a good manager. As sad as it is, most managers just want good money and cushy managerial jobs which aren't too difficult. They aren't interested in big challenges which could put their reputations at risk if they don't pull it off.

I actually cannot recall any team who have sacked their manager whilst in the 'danger zone' and appointed one of the best managers available, so if you guys pull it off it'll be a first.
 
to clarify for everyone who is about six years out of date, o neill's wife HAD lymphoma, so he resigned from celtic to look after her. she recovered, and he managed villa for four years. his wife is not sick. he has said so himself recently that he wants to get back into management. it might not be with us, but his wife will have nowt to do with it.

really?? then i consider myself corrected, apologies. having said that, i'm sure o'neill wouldn't take a job if he was concerned about his wife's health - if he puts himself in the running, i still think we should go for him.

hes turned us down before but so ****, were a different prospect now and i think an attractive oppertunity, why wouldnt he want the job ffs! We are Sunderland!

not only was his wife ill we were also in the championship when he last rejected us so you never know and until he comes out and publicly denies any interest i will have my fingers crossed for o'neill as hughes imo is too much like bruce....negative tactics and draws too many games

Hughes took over Blackburn when they were in freefall under Souness. If Hughes gets the job he will insist on bringing Mark Bowen in as Number 2.
