That's a nice photo - I'd guess it's from WW2. A bit odd for a painting though- sparse crowd and the guy who seems to be an air raid precautions official is watching for an air raid rather than the pitch.

I'm trying to do one of Sam Bartram, but it keeps slipping down the pecking order as changing from B/W to colour is a real business.

Yeah, first thing to go. The dad and son walking to the Valley were going there, but they looked better on the other side of the road.
