Why people want a 40 year old Goalkeeper with no sell on value doesnt make sense. We've been down that road before with experience, Hessenthaller, Junior Lewis, etc etc it doesnt work. Kasper Schmeichel would be ideal and if we do get relegated we more than likely get back what we have paid for him in the first place.

For our first season back in the Prem I would rather a 40 year old proven premier league keeper than an unproven championship keeper that may or may not have a better sell on value.

If you were a well respected individual in the game, known to all, and have been to some of the Countries biggest Clubs, you would have some degree of understanding about what decisions to make. I know if I were Peter Schmeichel, I'd have words with Kasper, advising him what route to take and what decision would be best.

We can't say confidently that he does dictate Kasper's career, but you also can't confidently say that he doesn't.

Every time Peter is bought up in conversation, he re-iterates that its his own career and he will make the decisions.
There are shades of negativity when his dad is mentioned in interviews, he likes to brush off those questions, i guess he wants to be his own man, people who say that hes trying to live off his surname have never seen an interview with him.


I think even Peter has said that he has nothing to do with his footballing decisions, its down to Kasper and his agent.

What nobody seems to be commenting on, and I think quite telling in this case, is the amount of publicity and ceretainty over our bid. Every news outlet seems to have it as £4.5m with no grey area and when the Beeb report it, they have a concrete sourse. Now I'm not privvy to how we carry out our deals but I'd be 99% sure that we wouldnt be leaking these details to the press for worry of alerting other potential suitors, nearly all of whom might be more attractive than us.

I can therefore only conclude either Septic or the player's agent are leaking the stories, both of which are positive cos they mean in the case of the former that Septic are trying to encourage other clubs to bid as they want to sell or in the latter that the player himself wants to encourage bids cos he wants out.

I reckon he'll be playing in the EPL next season, with whom we'll have to watch this space.

As a Rangers fan it's interesting to see so much Premiership interest in Hooper.

I think he's probably told Celtic that he wouldn't want to move unless a big club comes in for him. Unfortunately Norwich and Hull are not big clubs.

If he was looking ahead to the 14/15 season, he'd want to see himself winning things and still playing Champions League football. The only thing he's likely to win in the 14/15 season with Hull is the Championship.

Surely for the 1st season back we need to get players who will number 1 keep us in the division, then we can then start building for the future come next summer when we are still in the PL. At the moment yes we've had bids turned down for players but as will all clubs, and surely we should be happier that we are keeping at least one eye on the finances - we have signalled intent to those two players and to the league. Until 3 weeks time when we hopefully have added someone to strengthen the squad now is not the time to panic - the time to panic is a few weeks after the pre-season training starts, when we need the new signings blending in with the current squad

I disagree, it doesnt make any business sense to bring in someone who is on the brink of retiring, maybe bring him in as a goalkeeping coach or something, add experience to the ranks that way but no way as our No.1. Kasper Schmeichel was one of if not the best keeper in the Championship last season, with a possible 15 years on his side to get better. I would go down that route. Its about time we invested in a goalkeeper that is going to be between the sticks for the forseeable not another loanie or has-been, we've been messing about in that department since Myhill left the club.

I think so. I've worked in the industry long enough to know that whenever all media quote the same story I ask where did they get the info and who has an interest in them printing this?

Hull are odds on to go down. The bookies don't always get it wrong but they do indeed have more money than I do.

Or as I said in another thread, this is a tactic to send a message to other clubs we can spend money but won't be held to ransom and overpay, ready for when we move for our top priority targets after the holidays finish, and if one of our cheeky low bids is accepted ten Brucey bonus. Also leaks ambition to the national/worldwide press that we as we are looking at high calibre players, might make others take notice and help encourage them to join.

I don't think a big club will take a punt on a striker who has only proven himself in the SPL. Let's be honest it's no better than the English championship. He's better playing here for a season in the PL, if he does well and we stay up he gets another season, if he plays well and we get relegated, then he might get a move to a bigger club. It's unlikely he'll get that big club until he has at least demonstrated he can perform against top clubs week in week out. It will be very different to playing against Ross County, Hearts, Caley Thistle etc

Remove your blinkers. We will be playing the likes of Man U, which will attract massive audiences, and that's a better chance to showcase your talents as a player than playing a handful of games for Celtic. Even the non top 4 v other non top 4 games attract more viewers than Celtics game and on a world stage too. Top 4 seems quite arbitrary too, top 8, top 10, would all attract more viewers than you seem to think.

Just because you don't watch anything outside of the top 4 playing each other doesn't mean the rest of the the potential audience doesn't too.

Playing for any team in the EPL gives a player much more exposure than playing for Celtic, even with the brief appearances in the CL and even if it's just one season, any player who wants to get to "bigger" clubs would be mad to make a point and display their talents in such a way with a hope of moving on and up.

Well neither would I, I dont watch any matches if I dont care who wins or loses. I havent watched a live EPL match since we were relegated. Would you watch a non top 4 SPL side vs a non top 4 one if it didnt involve Rangers?
