Shola created 2 excellent chances last game. I can't remember anyone else doing that.

HBA created one good chance that I can recall. Can you recall anyone else who created two good scoring opportunities on Sunday ? I note you don't mention the cross for Ba's miss. Why is that ? Because you would hav to admit that it was a lovely ball in ?

Shola missed a chance. So did Ba. Shola's chance was considerably harder than Ba's. Does that make them both ****e ?

It is not true that anyone can win headers and flick the ball on. Ba, for example, isn't very good at it. No one else in the squad, in fact, does it very well.

Shola did play Lukaku onside. That was a mistake. There were many worse mistakes by newcastle players in that game.

As for playing Shola ahead of Cisse, at the moment yes. Cisse is having a period when he can't put the ball in the net. That will end but until it does Shola is preferable. When Cisse doesn't score, he doesn't do much else, either.

You can certainly disagree about whether to wait until Cisse's form returns to start him. I think it takes a particularly bloody minded approach, though, to have watched the performances of the 11 players in black and white on Sunday and to say that Shola deserves especial criticism.

Listen Fred Shola has never done season on season he's just not good enough.

I dont' want the side to persist with hoofball so whether he's any good at it is irrelavant to me.

Ba is 100% class so you cant even compare the two

Cisse he's had his back to goal for most minutes because the team is playing ****e.

The pen was his only real chance


Cisse will start I hope as I believe as Chelsea did wit Torress the best way to cure him is to show faith in him.

Anyway he has more goals than Shola 3-0 in all competitions I believe.

ps this thread was made before the last match he started in.
 
Not a fan of him at all and the sooner he leaves the better. He's **** has more bad games than good doesn't score anywhere near enough goals for the club and he always looks disinterested which pisses me off. He had one effort on sunday which missed byt a mile it was an awful effort.

Another thing that annoys me is when idiots say he scores against sunderland and thats all that matters, no its not all that matters what matters is you give your all every week and play with some quality as well. He doesn't do that 40 goals or something in a decade in terms of league goals is an abysmal pathetic record. He is the luckiest player how the hell he has been given contract after contract is beyond me.

Of course Ba is class. Ofcourse he is a better striker than Shola.

The point I'm making is that your assessment is biased.

Ba misses a sitter - - you ignore it. Shola misses a harder chance - - you slate him for it.

Shola plays in an absolutely lovely for Ba to miss - - you can't seem to bring yourself to mention it.

Shola is the only decent target man we have - - you decide that you don't like target men.

Cisse isn't scoring - - that's not his fault, it's the team's fault for playing ****e

I've got nothing against a criticism of Shola, or the view (which I share) that we should have a better third choice striker so that Shola is restricted to game killing cameos and matches of lesser importance. What does bother me is when that criticism is not based on a balanced assessment.

shola was **** on saturday and always is cisse has 3 goals now so roll with him

he didnt have to shoot for his chance he could have taken a touch an passed perhaps

Logically, if we want to become better, Shola isn't good enough and is a player we should be looking to replace.

Practically, Shola is at the very least effective in the particular brand of football we've had to revert to when we aren't playing well. Selling him at low cost and buying someone of even equal quality in his particular strengths is likely to be an expensive venture. Look how much players like Crouch go for, even at later ages. So that means a significant investment in someone who will either warm the bench or be used in squad rotation. If you buy someone older than 27 to cheapen the outgoing funds, the cost/benefit ratio will not be as favourable as simply retaining Shola. Anyone around 22-27 will want more money than Shola has ever seen, and will want gaurantees about first-team football, anyone younger will have a ginormous transfer fee!!!!!

Shola isn't somebody we want to be starting Premiereship games, but he most defintely has his uses.
 
I'm reading carefully through this thread and picking out the Shola naysayers to add to my list of enemies.

Be warned, my brand of justice is wordy and toothless! <grr>
 
I can't see any sense in offloading Shola. We wait 10 freaking years for him to become what he is now, and now you want him gone? Just bizarre for me. If you'd asked me at any time bar the last season and a half I'd have had him out the door. His laziness did my head in. But with Pardew the lad has started to work hard, looks fitter and as a result has found a niche role in the squad and is playing well. Very good from the bench and excellent at holding up the ball late in games you are winning. He can also prove useful if we need to go a bit more aerial on the odd occasion (like Man U at home last year).

Never been a big fan up until the last year and a half, but credit when it is due he has done well. Starting XI? Not on your nelly but he's a useful squad member. Him and Campbell will bring some very different options to the table. The concern of course is finding the right partner for Cisse and Ba. I refuse to accept they can't play together as last season proved they could. However I don't doubt they are better either on their own or with someone doing the dirty work.

I'm a massive fan of Carroll and would love him back. I don't buy this theory about long ball if you buy Carroll. He is more effective in passing teams in my opinion. I think he'd be a great option to add to our current mix. The other option of course is a buzzy Bellamy type but I think they see Campbell fulfilling that role. I hadn't realised but the lads who go to watch our 21's reckon he is more than just a goalscorer. They reckon he is involved in most goals and creates a lot for others.

If I recall correctly, Campbell set up 2 of Xisco's hat trick goals. Aside from his 10 minute cameo I've never seen him play but I can't wait. Any new striking option, let alone a home grown wunderkint, would be wlecome. If we get the 3 points at Brugge, I'd give him a run in the remaining Europa group gamess (and in the Brugge game itself if we are comfortably in front).

Can't speak from experience as I haven't seen a lot of him. But the reports all suggest we have a gem on our hands and I suspect we are protecting him a little from the typical response in this country. We hype them up from as young as possible and then spend the rest of their career trying to derail them! Certainly the lads I know who take an interest reckon he is a bit special. He'll need game time of course and the Europa looks a good option. A win in the next one away to Bruge will open the door for him as you say.
