West Brom look to have very little going forward this season, and with Anelka not playing as an out-and-out striker losing Long can only make them weaker. I like him and I rate him. Is £5m a bit much? Perhaps, but I think he'd fit our formation well. I hope we get him.

PS. I would have liked to have seen Gedo come in too, but ah well.

Why are you whinging about his goal scoring record? FFS!

If he had a better record we wouldn't be in for him, he'd be playing for the better clubs in the league.

He's still head and shoulders above Proschwitz, Boyd, Fryatt, Mclean.

Rumour is it will depend on if West Brom get their players.

Not kidding right but Twitter is swamped with comments implying that this would be a fantastic deal, that wba are stupid to let him go, wba fans crying, other fans suggesting to hijack. I mean that's pretty positive.

#hcafc's interest in Shane Long very real. He's been given permission to leave Ireland camp. Much will depend on West Brom strengthening

Suspect Long won't get signed off unless at least one like-for-like striker comes in to #wba

Probably hangs on WBA getting anichibe

Apparently the Baggies have agreed a fee with Sunlan for Sessegnon:

Well Bendtner, Cole, Doyle and Rodallega won't have been better. Number wise.

Bendtner- 29 goals in last 79 games (1 in 2.5)

Cole- 28 goals in last 105 games (1 in 4)

Doyle- 27 goals in last 139 games (1 in 5)

Rodallega- 27 goals in last 142 games(1 in 5)

Long - 44 goals in last 115 games (1 in 2.5)

and that's if it makes any sense to compare the last 3/4 seasons. I mean a lot of Bendtner's goal (about a quarter) have been in cups and obviously scoring while playing Arsenal is probably easier than scoring for Wolves or West Brom

Thats not really a fair assessment.. if you work it out by premier league games/goals its very different..

Long - 16 goals in 66 games (1 in 4)
Bendtner - 30 goals in 127 games (1 in 4)

etc..

I would love him, the fastest of the strikers we have been linked with, we really lack someone who trys and run beyond defenders. He runs the channels, plays on the last man a bit like Fryatt but with far more pace.

Exactly, we have lacked a striker that is a pain in the arse since Campbell.

That's my point he'll at best improve the bench & not the starting 11 that needs the improvement in terms of a goal scorer.

He's better than what we have already in that position.

He's an international and starts regularly, he's played in the premier league and scored goals.

I agree! Which for me suggest looking at figures is completely counter-productive ( I only did it because people starting mentioning his goal ratio). There are so many factors.

Did the player start or come off bench?

Who was the opposition? Leyton Orient or Chelsea?

What competition were the goals scored in?

Who assisted you, Fabregas or Stephen Hunt?

Has your manager used you in the right position?

and so on... there's no way you can label someone purely on numbers.

According to Burnsy he's meeting club officials in the next hour, he's currently flying over.
