The more I see of this young lad the more I like. He once again showed more senior members how to put it a good cross resulting in yet another goal. ( I believe 3 assists now in 3 games ).
For me he was man of the match last night, rarely does a pass go astray, has a good recovery in getting back should an attack break down and is good in the tackle for a little un.
I look forward to him being a regular. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Saw Fergie for the first time against Accrington Stanley in the League Cup (2010) and then in the next round against Chelsea at the Bridge and he had another cracking game. He's a real gem and can only get better.

I compare him to Barry Bannan of Villa... If Villa can start that lad , I don't see why can't we. Bannan's about the same size and has a cracking left foot as well..

He has really impressed since arriving on the scene. Even in those fleeting appearances under Hughton and last season, I think we all knew he would make the grade and become a useful squad member. The delivery of crosses is something we've lacked, this lad can provide us with some. Its something Ba and Cisse thrive on.

We may very soon have to decide whether Fergie LB and Santon RB is our strongest fullback option. Certainly he is better than Simpson going forward, though I haven't really seen him defend against premiereship opposition

Did okay at ful back last night. Admittedly it wasn'tt premiereship quality opposition, but he can play there.

I've got every confidence in Fergie, put him in goal and I'm sure he'd do a good job for us.

I think he could work for us in an orthodox 4-4-2, Ba and Cisse up front would work if we had quality balls going in the box.

..............Krul
Anita Saylor Colo Santon
HBA Cabaye Tiote Fergie
...........Cisse Ba

Amazing team. Leaves plenty of room for alteration to a 4-3-3 aswell, with Jonas to come off the bench for either striker or for Fergie if we want a formation change.

I think like most modern footballers he has a preferred position (LM) and one which he can operate successfully in (LB). He looks a winger all day long to me and always has. However I definitely think he can play left back because he applies himself and is just a natural footballer. He has plenty to work at (decision-making a key one) but which young player doesn't.

I can see a situation where he used at left back this season because Jonas could give him licence. That said he'll have to work to shift Santon over to the right because I thought Danny Simpson gave a great comeback performance last night. The cross for the own goal was devilish with pace and a bit of a defenders nightmare. Nice to see him developing a side of his game which hasn't always been the best. That is two assists already for him this season after the cross for Dembas goal in the opening game.

The team looks good, but I'm not sure if Colo is fit yet. I'd like to think so.

My thoughts exactly. It would appear that putting Ferguson LW could be the only way to get the 4-4-2 system working

Missed most of the game last night playing footy myself but was very impressed with Ferguson last night, one particular bit when he destroyed one of their players down the line for pace with 15 mins or so to go. The guy didn't look like getting near him. Could definatley give Jonas a run for his money for the left mid role this season. Great to see some really promising youngsters at the club!

does anyone think he has bulked up a bit from last season?

Not sure if he has, but he must have, even though its not showing that much. On the other hand, what I really like more than the bulking up, is the defending smarts he seems to have learnt. It's the little things getting in the head of the wingers that sometimes separate good from great and from the Bordeaux game, you could see that he has learnt the small tricks of slight pushing and slight irritation, these are what my coach used to call "half-fouls" that you couldn't get called a foul for... Great to see that in him, but defensively he's still not there yet, still a little naive. Wouldn't be able to handle the trickier players for sure yet
