I wouldn't say he ever played in the hole myself. Playing off the frontman isn't the same for me. He never came deep enough to collect the ball or defended enough to be an AM, he played the CF role hot and cold for me like, and fletch had to give himself the best strike to goal ratio in the league because Sess just didn't create enough. Don't want him back, Like I don't want Elmo, Campbell, Bent or Gyan back.
Bri, as I said he polarised supporters views, sometimes because they don't understand his role. Playing in the hole is not playing centre forward nor is it playing attacking midfield. Playing in the hole is bridging the gap between midfield and forward, pressing a high line and getting past the centre forward when we attack. Sess played in the hole for us and in my opinion played it very well, but I respect the views of others who think differently. I don't want him back because just like McCartney, it never works second time around. I have read the views of others on here who don't like players we have or we are linked with, but the saying 'be careful what you wish for comes to mind', because if they haven't noticed, we are rooted to the bottom of the table and until recently playing rubbish football, with no ball retention, leaking goals at one end and not scoring at the other.
Yeah a CF, Striker plays off them. So what's the name of that position if it's not CF? not AM as it doesn't fulfill the duties. but it must have a name? 'In the hole' is not a position it's a cliche. Not sure where you've been mate but have you noticed we've kept 5 clean sheets in the 8 league games and only lost 3 out of our last 10 in all competitions? We're averaging over 83% pass success rate whilst raising our passing percentage on last season. The only problem I can see is we're struggling to score goals. I'm afraid you see our situation to be way worse than what it is imo. I also feel you haven't given the last enough credit. Here you go, See, Mid Table form. please log in to view this image
The position is playing in the hole which is just behind the lone striker and I did say until recently playing rubbish football. You ask were have I been, I go to the home games as a season ticket holder and watch the away games on-line so I do think I am entitled to an opinion. We have had similar discussions in the past, I can assure you that I always say what I mean, so you really need to read what I post and not look for anything that are not there.
For once I agree 100% with you Smug. We didn't need his half hearted attitude and performances when he was here and we certainly don't want him back. We do need better players this window but I'd sooner see the lad Bridcutt brought here with some hunger in his belly and ambition in his eye. Half the cost, half the wages but twice the effort.
Cerci is a brilliant player mate. He can beat a man and put a good ball in, but just as easy, he can cut in and get his shots off. He's played on the right when I've watched him so if he can play just as easy on either wing, another bonus!
I'm surprised this thread has gone on as long as it has. Whilst he did put in some good performances, in many ways he only stood out because of the bilge around him. Why would we want to re-sign someone done for drink-driving at the very same time the lads were playing a cup-tie? Beyond me. We need to look forward not back!
Clearly we have a difference of opinion on the position and different interpretations of the term 'Recently'. When did I say you weren't entitled to an opinion? We're having an online discussion where we're entitled to disagree with each other, however when you get clever with the 'because if they haven't noticed' patronising bullshit people will reply especially when you're addressing someone directly, you say what you mean after all don't you? If you're going to be a ****er don't expect a civil reply! Simple. I can use bold too.
What about the other lad from Brighton that Poyet has been linked with, Ulloa? Centre forward who scored a couple yesterday and we could do with someone putting it in the net for us this season, worth a try?
Maybe he will come too but I'm not sure he is high on the list. If Ba is available he'd be my number 1 striking target. If he isn't, then this lad from Brighton May be considered.
I see, you now resort to the vulgarity of the barrack room in the vain attempt to impress me (or should that be others), I initially said that I respect peoples views that are different to mine but you tested that resolve when you needed to ask what position 'in the hole' was. However you did seem to take my comments personally, I don't understand why, but if the cap fits...................... I don't post on here much lately because of the childish and stupid posts that I have read. This isn't an online discussion as you say its an exchange of views followed by a temper tantrum from you, unfortunately I will not take your bait and I will go now to enjoy my life away from this forum. I refuse to argue with idiots because they bring you down to their level then beat you with experience.
Sess had his moments for us in his time here, but not enough of them for me to want him to return. Add to that his drink driving and all round ****e attitude, then it becomes a no brainer for me; and it's a big no thank you.
Whatever, you got rude I got back, you can go and stick your Bold statements up your arse for all I care.
Sunderland has been too soft on players for too long .......... as you well know, the club needs to be kicked up the arse from inside out. Thankfully we now have a manager the players can't flannel. I'm pretty sure he'll gradually weed out the slackers and bring in the likes of Marcos Alonso who are young and ambitious who'll take their chance to shine in the Premier League. I never want to see the likes of Gardner & Johnson here ever again ......... they're here for the money and an easy life.
I think Poyet is a tough cookie and will sort this shower of ****e out very quickly in the summer, whatever division we find ourselves. I'm with you about Johnson 100% Smug but in Gardners case, I just think he isn't a very good footballer that is totally baffled by the 'football' approach Gus is adopting. He is a kick it and chase it footballer who tries hard but just cant hack it at this level. I'd level that at 2/3rds of our squad actually. Johnson does have talent and we have seen small glimpses of it at Boro, City and here (very few times here mind) but he has a heart the size of fleas cock for the game that rewards him so handsomely. Id happily see him him peddled in the summer too.
I agree about Gardner and Johnson ........ if they each had each other's talent/heart they'd be excellent players. Sadly one has no heart and the other no talent. Very sad, in the case of Johnson who's wasted an entire career. Should have been going to Brazil but will end up at Burnley.
I'd go as far as to say if Sess had more backbone and desire for the game, coupled with his bag of tricks and undoubted skills, then he too would be a world class player. Instead, I get the feeling he is an excuses man, always looking for the easy way instead of the tough one. Sess has all the skills to be a champions league footballer but again no heart to see it through. He wouldn't have Sunderland and WBA on his cv if he were that kind of top player.
Bridcutt will be a good cm addition but he isn't by any means what we need. What we need is an attacking midfielder, someone like Sess
