To be honest I was never a fan of it, I liked the ship badge and the one before it but still accepted the new one, changing it is no big deal to me at the moment.

The stadium name is another one I'm not bothered about, I grew up with RP, and the SOL has never really sat that well with me - if the link is the pit call it Wearmouth.

And although I'm an old fart that rails against the 'commodification of everything' I understand the importance of money from naming rights at the moment - though funnily enough I'd find a name change more difficult from RP!
I worked at Wearmouth colliery any one else worked there
We had to work 12 hr shifts cause it took that long to get to the coal face

You live in one of the swanky flats?

I've been living just off Osborne Road for the past 10 years. I reckon there's a fair few of us 'behind enemy likes'?

Aye just opposite quayside spoons mate, it’s decent. Keep saying I’m gonna move but I love it and it’s paid for in 6 year so **** it.

There’s a fair few of us like, no question.

Ever try The Strawberry in Newcastle. <laugh>

We'd played Hull at the SOL and I was flying back to Nice from Newcastle on Sunday evening. The Mags were at Spurs on the Sunday so I popped into the Union on the way to the airport.

It was all a bit tame so I walked up to the Strawberry at half time. At the final whistle they'd lost 1-0 and looked doomed. I didn't say much tbh but there was a table of lads laughing it up and clinking glasses which raised a few eyebrows.

Some big shot asked if they were Mackems and they just laughed and said, 'well yeah, isn't it obvious'. Mr Big shot sat down and no one said another word.

Absolutely surreal.

To be fair I left soon after so have no idea what happened when they left but ffs man, what goes on.

Ah right!

I think I know where you mean.
That's handy for post session full english like, my partners son would be very jealous of your proximity to a 'Spoons' as he calls them.

Unfortunately I got to him late so he was already a dyed in the wool Chelsea fan like his dad - though we're his second team.

Since I was told about this I've looked at the most dynamic club's badges.

It's actually true, in most cases, what they're saying.

I don't mean most famous, etc, just the most dynamic.

I've had so much info thrown at me it's made my head spin. Once I'd posted what I knew I was flooded with people, working at the club, etc, confiding in me. But there's one thing that stuck in my mind and made me totally rethink my feelings.

I was told one of those involved said,

"Let's celebrate the past by winning things in the future."

Well, I won't be taking my 'Monty's save' picture down but I'm up for turning my head to look to the future.
I’ve said it for the last 20 years we need a new set of legends, hopefully that day will one day come .

I've always thought the current badge was a crap attempt at copying other clubs that had perceived classier badges.

I have zero attachment to it.

However, I'd been annoyed if we get some modern zany ****.

I had a relation there Jack Burns who was a safety officer at Monkwearmouth in the 70,s and 80's and recently have been reading up on the history of the Durham coalfield. Pemberton Main as Monkwearmouth Colliery used to be called is quite famous in 1826 the owners the Pemberton family sank the main shaft, the deepest in the world at the time, penetrating the magnesium limestone layer, at a cost of £100,000 a huge sum in those days, and the problems were many, but the gamble paid off, and the seams found went far out into the North Sea of course, which accounted for your long journeys. I went to Grange Park School and half of the class I was in ended up working at Monkwearmouth the other half like me went into the Yards, happy days.

I’ve always thought this badge was a rip off of the mags badge .Never liked it and never will sooner it goes the better .

The Mag badge <laugh>

It looks like 2 hideous half maggot/half donkey creatures and some midget, in a wheely bin, waving a red & white flag.

And, of course, the Mag fanzine calls it iconic <doh>

The badge change has been discussed, in depth on RTG and I'm a firm believer that a more simple badge, such as Spurs or Liverpool's would be the best way forward. Nice and clean and simple or even the old SAFC lettering from 73 cup final shirts.

Obviously my opinion and I would be open to other designs.
The current badge would look far better if it was just the shield part without the scrolls and everything else.
