MSD Partners are understood to be very close to completing a deal to buy Sunderland
Sunderland fans have spent the international break eagerly awaiting for an update about the club's impending takeover - but the mood is much more relaxed in the dressing room, according to new signing Joel Lynch.
US businessmen John Phelan, Robert Platek, and Glenn Fuhrman, and Michael Dell - the men behind MSD Partners - are understood to be very close to concluding their purchase of the club, and the sale could be confirmed any day now.
The prospect of having billionaire backers has galvanised fans who have seen their club slip from the top flight to the third tier, and it has raised hopes that the Black Cats will soon be back on an upward trajectory.
However, defender Lynch, who signed as a free agent a fortnight ago after leaving QPR at the end of last season, says that the players are remaining grounded, wary of tempting fate after a takeover bid led by Mark Campbell broke down over the summer.
"There are lots of whispers, but I'm not sure that the players know anything about it really," said Lynch of the takeover talk.
"I think that because things might have happened a few times before, people are just keeping their heads down and waiting for things to happen. We'll wait and see what happens, but I think that it's what the club needs and deserves."
