Unless you consider the drive of the EU to add more states.
Who knows, they may "temporary lower" their criteria for membership if they get desperate enough.
Once a country is a member, they have em.....and its a bollock ache to break free from their bullshit, as we are finding out first hand

The EU's prime directive is to protect the EU, adding more and more member states furthers that aim.

I just don't want to get bogged down on Turkey being a in out issue, it isn't.

Economics is the No1.
Immigration No2 and inextricably linked to No1

For example on No2, the main reason US democrats want open borders is that overwhelmingly immigrants vote democrat. That is just a fact

Open borders would Guarantee democrat power for the next 50 years.

removal of political enemies leaves everyone all on the same page, all pretence of democracy can go ahead.

As in, everyone will agree that Turkey is democratic in the Turkish political sphere

I don't see how it is funny, if Turkey meet EU criteria they are in, so the game is can Turkey create a false sense of reality.
The EU is only concerned about how things look, not how they are.

The EU wants the bloc to grow, you realise how much the EU has funnelled of your cash into Ukraine, another future member state. Another ****hole
